    Abstract: An ingenious STN type liquid crystal device having a layer of phase film and comprising a liquid crystal composition that contains a two-color pigment as additive for compensation of the color of the device per se is disclosed. Such a device has a clear black and white display effect and can be manufactured at a low cost. Moreover, since only a small amount of pigment is used as additive, the original drive characteristics, contrast and brightness of the device is not adversely affected by the pigment.
