  • Publication number: 20080075437
Abstract: User's operations for a player can be easily restricted. A restriction mode that restricts user's operations that control the player that reproduces contents are preset. A value that represents a restriction mode for each play list is recorded as attribute information on a disc. When the player reproduces contents from the disc, the player creates a table corresponding to a restriction mode for each play list. The player references the table and filters control commands corresponding to user's operations that control the reproduction of contents using a command filter. Restriction modes includes a mode causing the player to reproduce a play list from beginning at predetermined speed for example 1× speed and a mode prohibiting the player from jumping while it is reproducing a play list. The load of the content creator side that verifies restrictions against user's operations decreases. The load of the player side that verifies operations decreases.

  • Patent number: 7280298
Abstract: A set of coils wind around a magnetic core in a thin film magnetic head. Current supplying circuits are separately connected to the individual coils. The individual coils get shorter in the overall length as compared with the case where a set of coils consist of a single conductor. The impedance of the coils can be reduced. The reduction in the impedance enables the flow of the electric current to be established in a moment within the coils. The magnetic field of a sufficient intensity can be generated in a moment. Magnetization of a sufficient intensity can thus be established on a magnetic recording medium even when the frequency of a signal for recordation gets higher.

  • Publication number: 20060021060
Abstract: At step S372, permission information about video data that are being reproduced is obtained from permission information that represents whether video data corresponding to encoded video data equal to or larger than an access unit are permitted to be secondarily used. At step S373, it is determined whether the video data that are being reproduced have been permitted to be secondarily used corresponding to the permission information. When it has been determined that the video data that are being reproduced have been permitted to be secondarily used, at step S376, the video data that are being reproduced are captured. At step S381, a process using the captured video data is executed. The present invention can be applied to for example a game device that uses a DVD.

  • Patent number: 6501610
Abstract: A detection circuit in a magnetic recording and playback apparatus which uses partial response and the maximum likelihood method, in which neither the size of the detection circuit nor the power consumption increase when the partial response order n increases. In this detection circuit, in the circuit that detects a signal read out from a head, either a plurality of equalizers for different target equalization waveforms, or a single variable target equalizer is provided. A detector for the waveform output from an equalizer is connected in series with the detector. A plurality of combinations, each formed by an equalizer and a detector, is connected in parallel to the output of a filter, the outputs of the combinations of equalizers and detectors being input to a switching circuit, which is controlled by a switching control means. The switching control means controls the switching circuit so that just one of the combinations of equalizer and detectors is selected as the detector output.

  • Patent number: 5287385
Abstract: A Viterbi decoding system includes a characteristic estimator for estimating a characteristic of a system, and an equalizer for receiving an input signal from the system and for equalizing a waveform of the input signal so that an equalized waveform of the input signal is varied based on the characteristic of the system estimated by the characteristic estimator. A Viterbi decoder generates an output signal showing a maximum-likelihood path by using the equalized waveform of the input signal from the equalizer.
