In other words, the controller 446 determines whether or not an entry under evaluation corresponds to a time of a chapter of chapter scene change information 447 or whether or not the entry is an important scene change. If an entry under evaluation corresponds to a time of a chapter the controller 446 sets priority_flag=3 and stores it to an output server 426. The present invention can be applied to a game device or the like that uses for example a DVD.

Abstract: User's operations for a player can be easily restricted. A restriction mode that restricts user's operations that control the player that reproduces contents are preset. A value that represents a restriction mode for each play list is recorded as attribute information on a disc. When the player reproduces contents from the disc, the player creates a table corresponding to a restriction mode for each play list. The player references the table and filters control commands corresponding to user's operations that control the reproduction of contents using a command filter. Restriction modes includes a mode causing the player to reproduce a play list from beginning at predetermined speed for example 1× speed and a mode prohibiting the player from jumping while it is reproducing a play list. A Viterbi decoder generates an output signal showing a maximum-likelihood path by using the equalized waveform of the input signal from the equalizer.
