Patent number: 9316546Abstract: A flexible board includes a base layer, a wiring conductor layer that is located on the base layer, and a cover layer that is stacked over the base layer and covers the wiring conductor layer. A portion of the wiring conductor layer defines connecting portions that connect each of split electrodes of a flexible thermistor. The cover layer includes an opening that exposes the connecting portions, and receives the flexible thermistor. The split electrodes of the flexible thermistor are mounted on the connecting portions of the wiring layer. The height of the exposed surface of the flexible thermistor from the opening is substantially equal to the height of the surface of the cover layer.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2013Date of Patent: April 19, 2016Assignee: Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Shuji Tsubaki, Takeo Haga, Kazuto Miyagawa

Patent number: 7164341Abstract: A surface-mountable PTC thermistor element includes electrodes disposed on a top surface and a bottom surface of a thermistor element body, in which each of the electrodes is connected with a terminal respectively and each of the terminals is extended downward. An upper terminal is protected from being detached by a reaction force acting against pressing at the time of press-mounting the PTC thermistor element onto a surface of a substrate. A vertical-leg portion of the lower terminal is placed inside the thermistor element body in the radial direction from the outer edge of the thermistor element body. Preferably, the vertical-leg portion of the lower terminal is placed in the vicinity of the center of the thermistor element body.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2001Date of Patent: January 16, 2007Assignee: Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Takayo Katsuki, Takeo Haga

Patent number: 7109841Abstract: A surface-mount positive temperature coefficient thermistor includes a disk-shaped positive temperature coefficient thermistor element having electrodes provided on opposing main surfaces thereof, an insulating case having an inner space with the thermistor element inserted therein, and a pair of metal terminals arranged to make electrical contact with the respective main surface electrodes of the thermistor element, and to sandwich therebetween the thermistor element. The insulating case includes a pair of main surfaces that are substantially parallel to the main surfaces of the thermistor element, a pair of opening side surfaces each having an opening, and a pair of end surfaces each having a terminal insertion hole provided therein. One end of each of the pair of metal terminals is inserted from the respective terminal insertion holes into the inner space, and the metal terminals press-hold the thermistor element so as to sandwich the thermistor element therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2003Date of Patent: September 19, 2006Assignee: Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Takeo Haga, Hiroki Tanaka, Toshiharu Hirota, Hiroshi Kuwahara

Publication number: 20020084531Abstract: A chip thermistor includes a layered structure having a thermistor element and a substrate stacked one above the other with an electrically insulating layer in between. The thermistor element has a pair of surface electrodes on surfaces of a planar thermistor body, and a pair of outer electrodes each on a corresponding one of mutually opposite end parts of this layered structure. Each of these outer electrodes is electrically connected to a corresponding one of the surface electrodes. The pair of surface electrodes is preferably each formed so as to cover a major portion of one of the main surfaces of the thermistor body and to reach the opposite main surface through one of its side surfaces, while in a mutually separated and electrically insulated relationship. The substrate may preferably be another thermistor body.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 3, 2000Publication date: July 4, 2002Inventors: Yoshiaki Abe, Takeo Haga

Patent number: 6133821Abstract: A PTC thermistor has a disk-shaped main body with electrodes on its main surfaces which are facing mutually away from each other such that, during an initial period after a potential difference is applied between these electrodes, the side surface of the main body has an asymmetric temperature distribution between the electrodes in the direction normal to its main surfaces. The heat emission does not have a peak half-way between the electrodes in the direction of the thickness such that the thermistor has an improved resistance against flash pressure. This may be done by forming the electrodes in different sizes or by providing a non-uniform distribution in specific resistance to the main body such that the heat-emission peak is displaced from the center region between the two main surfaces of the main body.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1998Date of Patent: October 17, 2000Assignee: Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yasuhiro Nabika, Takeo Haga
