    Abstract: An optical communication module includes (a) at least one light-emitting device, at least one light-receiving device, or a combination of these; (b) an optically coupling means coupled optically with the device or each device; (c) an electric-circuit part connected to the device or each device; (d) multiple layers of electroconductive media supporting the device or devices, the optically coupling means or these optically coupling means, and the electric-circuit part or parts; and (e) a connector portion formed at the end portion of each of the electroconductive media. The insertion of the next-stage circuit substrate between the connector portions enables the electrical connection between the module and the next-stage circuit substrate having a multitude of leads without requiring a large space. An insulating spacer placed between the layers of the electroconductive media secures the electrical and thermal insulation. The module has a property of high-speed response.

    Abstract: An engine start is beforehand detected when a preparation operation to engine start is detected. When the preparation operation is detected based on a seat switch indicating that a driver seats himself on a driver seat, control of an electric current for a heater of an air/fuel ratio sensor is started. The air/fuel ratio sensor is then activated prior to the engine start. Failure diagnosis is conducted on a function for detecting the preparation operation. Namely, the seat switch is diagnosed as having failure, for instance, by the following. Even while a vehicle travels, the seat switch is in an OFF state indicating that no driver is seated. This structure can restrict the engine start without the air/fuel ratio sensor being pre-heated. It can also restrict deteriorating of emission.

    Abstract: A leakage diagnosing apparatus for an evaporated gas purge system, which executes purge system leakage diagnosis based on a detected pressure change amount and an introduced pressure which is introduced into a part of the purge system including at least a fuel tank and a canister. The detected pressure change amount is obtained by detecting pressure in the part of the purge system after such part of the purge system is hermetically sealed. Accordingly, the reliability of the leakage diagnosis is improved because an erroneous diagnosis caused by the introduced pressure is prevented. The detected pressure change amount may be compensated based on the introduced pressure into the sealed gas purge system. Accordingly, an erroneous leakage determination is prevented, and the reliability of leakage determination is improved.
