  • Publication number: 20070024040
Abstract: The present invention provides an air bag device in which an airbag member can be quickly and positively inflated and expanded, with its central portion instantaneously inflated. The present invention describes an air bag device 10 in which an intermediate cloth of a polygonal shape, having a gas inlet port leading to an inflator, is disposed between a front-side cloth and a reverse-side cloth which are sewn together at their peripheral edge portions. Part of a peripheral edge portion of the polygonal intermediate cloth is sewn to the front-side cloth, and gas outlet ports are provided respectively at those portions or this peripheral edge portion which are not sewn to the front-side cloth. With this construction, an airbag member can be quickly and positively inflated and expanded, with its central portion instantaneously inflated.

  • Patent number: 7152879
Abstract: By disposing external straps 36 to 38 which are passed through a tubular member 34 which passes through an air bag 21 in a tunnel-like fashion to open in side surfaces of the air bag 21 are disposed on an outer circumference of the air bag 21 and controlling the deployment shape of the air bag 21 by the external straps 36 to 38 so disposed, the occupant restraining performance of the air bag can effectively be enhanced.

  • Patent number: 7152878
Abstract: Three apex portions of a triangular air bag 32 are folded toward a central portion of the air bag, respectively, so that the respective apex portions and a retainer are coupled together by a restricting member 39, and thereafter, the air bag 32 is folded up into an appropriate shape. In an earlier stage of deployment of the air bag 32, the inflation of the air bag 32 to its maximum capacity is restricted by the restricting member 39, whereby the air bag 32 is allowed to inflate quickly to a capacity which is smaller than its maximum capacity, thereby making it possible to get the air bag 32 ready for restraining an occupant. In a later stage of deployment of the air bag 32 that occurs thereafter, when an internal pressure of the air bag 32 reaches or exceeds a predetermined value, the restricting member 39 breaks or extends.

  • Patent number: 7152875
Abstract: A restricting member 39 disposed along an outer surface of an air bag 32 restricts an axial inflation of the air bag 32 in an earlier stage of deployment of the air bag 32, and in a later stage of deployment, the restricting member 39 allows for the inflation of the air bag 32 to its maximum capacity through breakage of brittle portions 41b. In the deployment process of the air bag 32, since vent holes 37b formed in a base fabric 37 of the air bag 32 are closed by the restricting member 39, the leakage of gas from the vent holes 37b is prevented to thereby enable a quick deployment of the air bag 32. Then, when the brittle portions 41b on the restricting member 39 break, the vent holes 37b are opened.

  • Patent number: 7108278
Abstract: An air bag apparatus for side crash, includes an acceleration sensor, an inflater and an air bag. The acceleration sensor detects acceleration in a side direction larger than a predetermined value to generate a detection signal. The inflater generates a gas in response to the detection signal. The air bag is folded initially, and expands with the gas. The air bag includes a main section and a protrusion section which is provided at a tip portion of the main section such that an inner space of the protrusion section is connected with an inner space of the main section. The protrusion section has at least one opening from which the gas is spouted. The air bag further includes at least one partition provided in an inner space of the air bag.

  • Publication number: 20050274172
Abstract: An airbag inflator performance test system includes: a cylindrical tank; a disk-shaped piston vertically movably disposed with a gap between the piston and an inner peripheral face of the tank, the gap allowing gas to flow; a piston rod that projects upward from the piston and runs slidably through the tank so as to guide vertical movement of the piston; a lower chamber defined within the tank beneath the piston; an upper chamber defined within the tank above the piston; an inflator disposed in the lower chamber; a pressure sensor for detecting a pressure of the upper chamber; and a piston displacement sensor for detecting a displacement of the piston in order to detect a volume in the upper chamber. After ignition of the inflator, an inflator local work and an inflator total work, which are indexes of the energy of the inflator, are calculated based on the pressure and the volume of the upper chamber.

  • Publication number: 20050115438
Abstract: A squib that is used by being connected to a bus is formed by assembling an explosive unit and a communication/ignition unit that have been constructed as separate components. The communication/ignition unit is provided with an IC substrate for ignition and communication that is electrically connected to a bus wire. The explosive unit is provided with explosive, an ignition element, and a header that is interposed between the ignition element and the IC substrate, and that electrically connects the two. In this IC integrated type of squib that is used for communication and ignition, it is possible to prevent the explosive and the IC from mutually interfering with the performances of each other.
