Abstract: A image processing apparatus includes a scanner scanning data from both document sheets and Optical Mark Reader (OMR) data sheets thereon, a converter converting data scanned by the scanner to digital multi-valued coded data, a multiplexer selecting a suitable threshold level for recognizing the digital multi-valued coded data from the document sheets and the OMR data sheets, and a comparator comparing digital multi-valued coded data from the document sheets and the OMR data sheets with a suitable threshold level to generate binary coded data.

Abstract: A facsimile machine which accommodates a plurality of lines includes a voice answer unit for generating a predetermined voice message with remaining communication time, and a processing unit, for outputting the voice answer message generated by the voice answer unit to one of the lines via which a call is received, when the call is received via one of the lines during a communication via another line, so that the voice answer message is transmitted to a calling station.

Abstract: A method for controlling a data terminal equipment coupled to a network via a line and coupled to a center apparatus via the line and the network. A plurality of tone signals sent from the center apparatus and having mutually different frequencies are received. The levels of the tone signals are detected. The characteristic of the line is judged on the basis of the levels of the tone signals. A suitable equalizing characteristic most suitable for the characteristic of the line is selected from among a plurality of predetermined equalizing characteristics compensating for possible characteristics of the line. There is also provided a data terminal equipment using the above-mentioned method.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for facsimile transmitting having an error retransmission function. A page of information is divided into a plurality of frames. The frames are transmitted on a block-by-block basis with each block having a predetermined number of frames. The information is received at a receiving station and checked for errors. If errors are present an indication is submitted back to the transmitting station so that the frames having errors can be retransmitted. A plurality of buffers is provided so that the first information can be transmitted from a first buffer while the next image information is being encoded and stored in a second buffer.

Abstract: A facsimile machine includes a reprogrammable voice memory for storing a desired voice message. A memory card which is a fixed memory and stores a plurality of predetermined voice messages, is prepared by a manufacturer and the voice memory is set in position in the facsimile machine and the voice messages recorded on the memory card are selectively transferred to the reprogrammable voice memory.
