  • Publication number: 20100296696
Abstract: In a sorting apparatus, an image on the paper sheet is read by a scanner, and from the read image on the paper sheet, characters of the destination information are recognized by a character recognition unit. If the address information included in the destination information as a character recognition result obtained by the character recognition unit matches with the address information having an out-migrant included in relocation information previously registered in a database, it is judged by a judgment unit whether the receiver on the paper sheet is the out-migrant. If it has been judged that the receiver on the paper sheet is the out-migrant, a label on which the address information of a new address of the out-migrant is written is attached to an attaching position considering a description area of the destination information on the paper sheet by a label attachment unit.

  • Patent number: 7680329
Abstract: A character recognition apparatus generates each character candidate from a character string written in a plurality of character entry boxes written on a sheet of paper such as a business form, and performs character recognition. A row image separating unit acquires an image containing a plurality of character entry boxes and the character string. A character extraction processing unit detects each point at which a plurality of lines are in contact with each other and intersect in the character string contained in the image, determines a point at which the character string should be cut or recombined on the basis of the placement relationship between the point and the corresponding character entry box, and generates each character candidate constituting the character string. A character recognition unit performs character recognition for each character candidate generated by the character extraction processing unit.

  • Patent number: 7580544
Abstract: An addressee recognizing apparatus recognizes the addressee of matter to be delivered. A database stores a description format including at least a described position, the number of character lines, and the length of each character line in a sender area on the matter to be delivered. When a scanner obtains an image, a plurality of addressee candidate areas are obtained from the image. The apparatus determines whether the description format for each of the extracted candidates matches the description format for the sender area stored in the database. If the description format for the candidate is determined to match the description format for the sender area, the candidate is prohibited from being recognized as the addressee area.

  • Publication number: 20090208112
Abstract: A pattern recognition method is applied to processing of causing an information processing apparatus to recognize a pattern in a plurality of steps. The information processing apparatus detects recognition candidates which can be recognition candidates of each step. The information processing apparatus expands the recognition candidates of the next step belonging to each detected recognition candidate of each step. The information processing apparatus calculates the evaluation value of each expanded recognition candidate based on an a posteriori probability on condition of all recognition processing results for a recognition candidate which has undergone recognition processing. The information processing apparatus selects recognition candidates based on the calculated evaluation value of each recognition candidate. The information processing apparatus determines a recognition result based on the selected recognition candidates.

  • Publication number: 20090166425
Abstract: A bar code reader performs a double-printing detecting process to determine whether or not a plurality of bar codes are overprinted based on an image containing a bar code read by a scanner. The bar code reader determines that the recognition result of the bar code is ineffective information when it is detected by the overprinting detecting process that a plurality of bar codes are overprinted and outputs the recognition result of the bar code to a control portion when it is not detected by the overprinting detecting process that a plurality of bar codes are overprinted.
