  • Patent number: 8773679
Abstract: A control unit for controlling a document conveying operation stops the conveyance of a document by a document conveying unit if document(s) is/are placed on a placing portion, the document is being conveyed and an upper structure is not in a closing posture. Further, the control unit stops the conveyance of the document when the trailing end of the document being conveyed has not passed a document reading position and, on the other hand, causes the document to be discharged to a document discharging portion without stopping the conveyance of the document when the trailing end has passed the document reading position if no document is placed on the placing portion, the document is being conveyed and the upper structure is not in the closing posture.

  • Patent number: 8579285
Abstract: A document conveying device includes a document conveying unit, a controller, first and second document detectors, a pulse count detector, and a determining unit. The first document detector is located on a feeding path along which a document is fed by the document conveying unit, and detects a document leading edge. The second document detector is located at a position different from that of the first document detector in both a document feeding direction and a direction orthogonal thereto, and detects the document leading edge. The determining unit determines whether the number of pulses detected by the pulse count detector during the period from detection of the document leading edge by one of the first and second document detectors to detection of the document leading edge by the other exceeds a predetermined value. If the number of pulses exceeds the predetermined value, the controller stops the document feeding operation.

  • Patent number: 8462375
Abstract: When electric power supply is started in response to a power switch being turned on, a control unit determines whether a stored operation mode is a normal mode or a power saving mode with reference to the stored operation mode. More specifically, the control unit determines whether a digital multifunction peripheral is set to operate in the normal mode or the power saving mode before electric power supply to the digital multifunction peripheral is stopped. If the set operation mode is the normal mode, the control unit controls the digital multifunction peripheral to operate in the normal mode. If the set operation mode is the power saving mode, the control unit controls the digital multifunction peripheral to operate in the power saving mode.

  • Patent number: 7756434
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a power switch for turning on and off a power source. An electric power saving mode designation acceptor can accept a designation to set a power saving mode to suppress power consumption. The apparatus further has an image former for forming a toner image on a sheet; a fixing device for thermally fixing the toner image; a heater for heating the fixing device; and an electric power saving controller for shifting to the power saving mode if the power saving mode designation is accepted by the power saving mode designation acceptor, and for controlling the heating section to heat the fixing device to a predetermined fixing temperature necessary for fixing the toner image on the sheet if the power saving mode designation is not accepted by the electric power saving mode designation acceptor, in response to shifting of the power switch from off to on.
