A document processing method according to the present invention includes a conversion step of converting application data created by the application program into document data processible by the layout program, in response to an instruction from the application program, and a control step of controlling to open the document data obtained in conversion processing, by the layout program in response to conversion processing in the conversion step.

Abstract: This invention has as its object to allow a print system having a middle insert print function to insert an index sheet without billing for it. According to a preferred embodiment, when it is set to insert an index sheet, a print application (305) executes a non-billing command transmission preparation process (step S603). Upon completion of the preparation process, the print application transmits a non-billing command to a printer (step S604). The print application then executes an index sheet output process (step S606). The printer excludes the index sheet from sheets to be billed in accordance with the received non-billing command.

Abstract: This invention relates to a printing control method and apparatus, a computer program product, and the like in which printing data is held in a hierarchical structure and a printing job is issued to a printer to cause the printer to print. In the printing control method according to the present invention, different setting values can be set in the lower and upper layers of the hierarchical structure as printing setting data containing double-sided printing or single-sided printing setting. When a setting value different from that of the upper layer is set in the lower layer of the hierarchical structure, the printer is instructed on a setting in the lower layer for each printing data to which the setting value is applied.

Abstract: This invention relates to a document processing apparatus and method for a structured document formed by grouping original pages. The document processing apparatus according to this invention controls display of the image objects of either or both of a document structure and an original page contained in the document. The document processing apparatus includes an editor which edits the document so as to insert a new group containing a designated original page to a designated position in accordance with designation of the original page and the position on the displayed image objects. Display of the image objects is controlled for the document edited by the editor.

A setting user interface window is displayed from a print setting menu, a desired unit is selected from a print target column, and the range is designated in the selected unit. The range can be designated by an entire book file, chapter, page, or booklet.

Abstract: This invention relates to a document processing apparatus which edits document data which can define a desired section using an original page as a unit of definition. Whether a page break is designated at the section break of the section is determined. If the page break is designated, a blank original page is inserted at the end of a section before the section break so as to lay out the first original page of a section after the section break at the start of a new surface of a print sheet when original pages are laid out in accordance with a designated layout.
