  • Patent number: 5702122
Abstract: An axle supporting member for a rear wheel is suspended to a suspension member by an upper link system which includes an A-arm and a side rod. The forward lower link member and the side rod are respectively arranged in front and rear of a vertical plane passing through a rotary axis of the rear wheel, while a suspension spring and a shock absorber are seated on the forward lower link member positioned in front of the above-mentioned vertical plane with respect to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. Accordingly, an initial load transmitted from the suspension spring is mainly borne by the front end part of the suspension member, so that an initial load exerted to the rear end part of the suspension member becomes smaller. Thereby, it is possible to reduce the resilient deformation of bushings in the front and rear parts of the suspension member upon application of a wind-up input force.

  • Patent number: 5069431
Abstract: A bush assembly includes an inner cylindrical member for supporting an elongated member, a rigid sleeve slideably fixed to the outer surface of the inner cylindrical member via a slipping member, and an outer cylindrical member fixed to the outer surface of the rigid sleeve via an elastic member. The rigid sleeve has a greater diameter portion at one end thereof so that an annular space is formed between the greater diameter portion and one end of the inner cylindrical member. The bush assembly further includes a sealing member which is disposed in the annular space for preventing muddy water or the like from getting into the interfaces between the slipping member and the inner cylindrical member and between the slipping member and the rigid sleeve. The sealing member includes an outer portion fixed to the rigid sleeve, an inner portion being brought into contact with the inner cylindrical member, and an intermediate portion arranged therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4934729
Abstract: A double link type suspension system having an extension member for movably connecting the upper section of a knuckle and an upper control arm movably connected to the side of a vehicle body. A rotatable joint mechanism is provided between the knuckle upper section and the extension member and includes a cylindrical member fixed to the extension member. The axis of the cylindrical member is aligned with an axis line passing through a joint between the lower section of the knuckle and a lower control arm movably connected to the vehicle body side. A pivot shaft fixed to the knuckle upper section is disposed inside the cylindrical member and rotatably supported through two deep groove ball bearings disposed between the pivot shaft and the cylindrical member, thereby reducing jointing error between the knuckle and the extension member thus reducing camber angle error.

  • Patent number: 4883287
Abstract: A double link type suspension system for an automotive vehicle is comprised of an extension member movably connecting the upper section of a knuckle and an upper control arm. The knuckle upper section and the lower end section of the extension member are connected through a rotatable joint mechanism including a cylindrical member fixed to the extension member whose axis is aligned with the axis line passing through a joint between the lower section of the knuckle and a lower control arm. A pivot shaft fixed to the knuckle upper section is disposed inside a pair of deep groove ball bearings supported inside the cylindrical member. Additionally, a stabilizer bar is provided in such a manner that its end section is attached to the extension member lower end section at a position closer to the center axis of the vehicle body, thereby preventing steering effort change caused by change of steering turn angle of the wheel.

  • Patent number: 4875703
Abstract: A double link type front suspension system for an automotive vehicle of the front engine front drive type or the four wheel drive type. The suspension system is comprised of upper and lower control arms adapted to connect a steering knuckle with a vehicle body. An extension member is movably connected at its upper end section with the upper control arm and at its lower end section with the upper section of the knuckle. Such a relative rotation between the extension member lower end section and the knuckle upper section is made around a straight line (steering axis) passing through a ball joint for connecting the knuckle lower section with the lower control arm. Additionally, a stabilizer bar is connected at its end section with the extension member lower end section, thereby preventing the stabilizer bar end section from its swing-around motion.

  • Patent number: 4810002
Abstract: A double link type front suspension system for an automotive vehicle of the front engine front drive type or the four wheel drive type is comprised of upper and lower control arms for swingable connecting a knuckle for rotatably supporting a front wheel to a vehicle body. A curved extension bracket is provided to rotatably connect the knuckle upper section with the upper control arm. The extension member is movably connected at its upper end section with the outboard end section of the upper control arm and rotatably connected at its lower end section with the knuckle upper section. The relative rotation between the extension member and the knuckle upper section is made around a straight line (steering) axis) passing through a ball joint for connecting the knuckle lower section and the lower control arm, thereby making it possible to set the steering axis regardless of the upper control arm.

  • Patent number: 4802688
Abstract: A double link type suspension system for use, for example, in an automotive vehicle of the front engine front drive type or the four wheel drive type is comprised of a knuckle for rotatably supporting a wheel of the vehicle. Upper and lower control arms are swingably connected at their inboard end section with a vehicle body. The outboard end section of the lower control arm is connected through a first joint to a lower section of the knuckle. Additionally, an extension member is provided to connect both the outboard end sections of the upper and lower control arms. The extension member is also movably connected through a second joint to the upper part of the knuckle, in which an imaginary axis connecting the first and second joints serves as a steering axis around which the wheel is turnable to steer the vehicle, thereby increasing freedom of selection of location of the outboard end section of the upper control arm.
