  • Publication number: 20060066667
Abstract: A recording head has a dot formation element array including a pluarlity of dot formation elements arranged in a first direction. A platen is operable to hold a recording medium in a position opposite to the recording head. The platen has a hole formed in a substantially center area in the first direction of the platen. The hole guides ink that has be discarded outside at least one of a leading end and a trailing end of the recording medium when data are recorded on the recording medium without leaving a margin on at least one of the leading end and the trailing end of the recording medium. The hole has a size in the first direction which is less than an entire portion of the dot formation element array.

  • Patent number: 6964466
Abstract: A recording apparatus has a recording head, a platen and a first hole. The recording head includes a dot formation element array, and the platen holds a recording medium opposite the recording head. The first hole is disposed in an area of the platen opposite a downstream portion of the dot formation element array and guides ink discarded outside an end of the recording medium when the end is printed without a margin. Alternatively or additionally, a second hole is formed in an area of the platen opposite an upstream portion of the dot formation element array, and the platen guides ink, which is discarded outside an end of the recording medium when the end is printed without a margin, too the second hole.

  • Patent number: 6899326
Abstract: A first non-recording region is situated in one of both outer sides of a recording region in a main scanning direction of recording. A second non-recording region is situated in the other one of the both sides of the recording region. A power source provides a driving force. A driving gear is interconnected with the power source. A transmission gear is operable to be coupled with the driving gear to transmit the driving force to a rotatable member. An actuator is operable to move in the main scanning direction. A first trigger is disposed in the first non-recording region. A second trigger is disposed in the second non-recording region. A clutch is interconnected with the trigger so as to couple the driving gear and the transmission gear when the one of the first trigger and the second trigger is actuated by the actuator.

  • Publication number: 20040189767
Abstract: A sheet feeding device is adapted to feed a recording medium including a first medium provided as a cut-sheet form and a second medium provided as a rolled-sheet form to a recording section at which a recording operation is performed with respect to the recording medium, by ejecting ink droplets thereto. A first sheet feeder is operable to feed the first medium stacked thereon to the recording section. A second sheet feeder is adapted to be detachably attached the first sheet feeder, and operable to feed the second medium to the recording section.

  • Patent number: 6007194
Abstract: An ink jet recording method ejecting already printed sheets stacked one on top of another, wherein: a period T, necessary for ink printed on a former sheet to be fixed enough that it does not adhere to a successive sheet stacked on top of the former sheet is set; an elapsed period tn is measured from a point in time when printing of the former sheet is completed; the elapsed period is compared with a set period when the successive sheet is ejected; and if the elapsed period has not reached the set period, the successive sheet is ejected by an intermittent feeding operation in which the successive sheet slidingly contacts the former sheet at a point in time when the elapsed period exceeds the set period.

  • Patent number: 5921691
Abstract: A paper discharge section for a printer having a printer body includes first and second support portions mounted on the printer body. At least one of the support portions is slidable towards and away from the other support portion. A paper pushing down portion is mounted on the printer body and positioned intermediate the support portions. The first support portion can rotate between at least a first position at which the first support portion supports a first bottom side portion of the sheet of paper and at least a second position in which the first support portion does not support the first bottom side portion of a sheet of paper. A slidable edge guide for guiding a first side edge of a sheet of paper is provided and slidable towards the other edge guide. A linkage mechanism links the slidable edge guide to the first support portion to cause the first edge guide and first support portion to slide together.

  • Patent number: 5738348
Abstract: A sheet feeder assembly including and a sheet feed roller for feeding a sheet of paper in a sheet feeding direction. A sheet support is spaced apart from the sheet feed roller for supporting the sheet of paper thereon. A retaining plate is mounted on the sheet support. A hopper is displaceable between a first position spaced apart from the sheet feed roller so that the paper supported on the hopper cannot contact the sheet feed roller and at least a second position where the leading edge of the sheet of paper can contact the sheet feed roller so that the paper is urged towards the sheet feed roller.
