    Abstract: The present technology relates to a distance measuring device and a distance measuring method capable of improving the resolution of the distance measuring device while suppressing the number of light-receiving elements. The distance measuring device includes a light source that emits pulsed irradiation light; a scanning unit that scans the irradiation light in a first direction; a light-receiving unit that receives incident light including reflected light with respect to the irradiation light; a distance measuring unit that performs distance measurement based on the incident light; and a control unit that shifts an irradiation direction of the irradiation light in the first direction within a range smaller than a resolution in the first direction between frames by controlling at least one of the light source and the scanning unit. The present technology can be applied to LiDAR, for example.

    Abstract: A substrate is placed on a support surface of a table. The support surface has a flatness of 2 &mgr;m or less. The table has a plurality of holes in the surface. A vacuum is created in the holes to bring the substrate into close contact with the support surface. This eliminates deformations of the substrate, such as twisting and curving. A coating die is moved above the table to apply a coating material onto the substrate. Consequently, a coating having a constant thickness is formed on the substrate.
