    Abstract: A hearing aid apparatus includes a frequency analysis device configured to determine an instantaneous fundamental frequency value of a speech signal for a time portion of the speech signal. A statistical evaluation device is configured to determine an average fundamental frequency value of the speech signal over several time portions. A hearing aid apparatus further includes a fundamental frequency modifier that is configured to modify the instantaneous fundamental frequency value to a modified fundamental frequency value such that a difference or a quotient of the instantaneous fundamental frequency value is changed to the average fundamental frequency value according to a specific function. Thereby, a frequency range may be modified within which the fundamental frequency value varies. The hearing aid apparatus further includes a speech signal generator that is configured to generate, on the basis of the modified fundamental frequency value, a speech signal modified with regard to the fundamental frequency.

The random selector is adapted to select one frequency bin signal from the plurality of frequency bin signals by means of a random process taking into account the selection probability value assigned to the at least on frequency bin signal. The electrode stimulation generator is adapted to generate an electrode stimulation signal for application to an electrode of a neural auditory prosthesis, the electrode corresponding to a frequency of the selected frequency bin signal. A corresponding method and a computer readable digital storage medium are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A device for analyzing an audio signal to obtain an analysis representation of the audio signal includes a converter for converting the audio signal into a representation representing a neurotransmitter vesicle occurrence in clefts between a plurality of nerve fibers and inner auditory cells of an ear model, and a calculator for calculating a neural activity pattern over time on the plurality of nerve fibers, which results based on the neurotransmitter vesicle occurrence, wherein the neural activity pattern is an analysis representation of the audio signal. The inventive device thus generates an especially suitable analysis representation of an audio signal in which masking effects occurring in the generation of action potentials on nerve fibers are considered. The inventive analysis representation is also suitable for an examination of the audio content and also for controlling cochlea implants.
