Abstract: Isotropic liquid detergents containing a soil release co-polymer and an anti-redeposition enhancer, the latter selected from vinyl pyrrolidone polymer or vinyl pyridine nitrous oxide polymer. The use of soil release co-polymer and the enhancer together leads to a synergistic improvement in soil anti-redeposition. Preferred compositions are colored isotropic compositions packaged in a transparent container.

Abstract: A pretreater or laundry additive composition which removes stains and as a laundry additive, whiten fabrics are described herein. The compositions contain 0.1 to 20 wt. % of a nonionic surfactant, 0.1% to 10 wt. % of a hydrophobically modified polymer and less than about 5 wt. % of an anionic soap. Methods of using the composition are also described.

The compositions contain 30 to 80 wt. % of a nonionic surfactant, 1 to about 20 wt. % of an anionic soap, and 0.1% to 10 wt. % of a hydrophobically modified polar polymer. A method of using the composition is also described.

When the molar ratio of the number hydrophilic groups to number of hydrophobic groups on said polymers is below certain critical levels, it has been unexpectedly found that the stability (i.e., clarity) of the composition remarkably increases. The solubility of the polymer is further dependent on the type and amount (minimum required) of hydrotrope; surfactant type and levels; and minimum electrolyte levels.

Abstract: A detergent composition has been discovered that imparts improved soil shield properties to synthetic fabrics. The composition comprises:(a) about 7 to about 15% by weight of a nonionic surfactant formed from C.sub.12-18 fatty alcohols ethoxylated with about 10 to about 14 moles of ethylene oxide and containing a narrow ethylene oxide distribution;(b) an effective amount up to about 1.0% of a modified cellulose ether; and(c) the balance, detergency adjunct materials.Plant tower smoke produced during the spray drying operation is reduced when using said composition with ethoxylated alcohols of narrow ethylene oxide distribution.
