  • Patent number: 7609702
Abstract: A method and apparatus of communicating data between a cell based network and a packet based network. Received segments of data units are formed into new data segments which are transmitted irrespective of whether a complete data unit has been received. The received segments may be stored, used to form cells and/or transport packets, and transmitted to the cell based network or the packet based network. Also, conditions may be detected, such as timer expiration or a maximum reception capacity achieved, before the segments are used to form the cells and/or transport packets. Forming transport packets may comprise including segments belonging to a specific data unit in a transport packet and/or adding an indication of a specific data unit to which a segment belongs. These operations may be performed by a base station, an interworking unit, or a radio network controller.

  • Patent number: 7170892
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, facilitates communication of data frames between elemental devices of a network element, such as an IP (Internet Protocol) base transceiver station of a radio communication system which includes a multi-port interface converter and a router device connected by way of an Ethernet connection. Data applied to a port of the interface converter is formatted into a data frame which selectably includes a Q Tag Prefix populated with a VID (Virtual LAN Identifier) defined in the IEEE 802.1 Q standard. If the data to be communicated by the multi-port interface converter is originated at the converter, the data is formatted into a data frame, but the prefix structure is not included, and therefore the frame is not populated with the VID. When the data frame is received at the router device, detection is made as to whether the data frame includes a prefix structure.

  • Publication number: 20060198336
Abstract: This invention relates to a method, a system, a base station, a base station hub (41) and software applications for data transmission between at least one base station (42-1, 42-2) and a radio network controller (40) in a radio access network, said method comprising operating a first-type physical layer protocol (46) for a transmission of said data between said at least one base station (42-1, 42-2) and a base station hub (41); operating a second-type physical layer protocol (47) for a transmission of said data between said base station hub (41) and said radio network controller (40); wherein said data comprises user data (340) that is transmitted between said radio network controller (40) and said at least one base station (42-1, 42-2) via said base station hub (41); and wherein said at least one base station (42-1, 42-2) performs at least base band processing for signals that are transmitted via a radio interface (7) and represent said user data (340).

  • Publication number: 20050281253
Abstract: A data transport method in a telecommunications system is provided. The method comprises creating a traffic channel connection between two network elements in the telecommunications system, allocating data of a number of user entities for transportation over the virtual channel using overbooking, buffering data packets into separate buffers, according to the priority level of the packets, to wait for transport over the traffic channel, and multiplexing the data packets with determined priority levels into the virtual channel according to the priority level of the packets such that whenever higher priority level data packets are available, the higher priority level data packets are multiplexed into the virtual channel before lower priority level data packets. Additionally, formation of user data packets is controlled according to a filling degree of at least one of the buffers.

  • Publication number: 20050276267
Abstract: A network element of a communication system comprises, for instance, means (316, 410) for reserving, for connections carrying information packets with non real-time traffic, a predetermined amount less of capacity than the estimated peak rate; means (316, 410) for assorting the information packets with non real-time traffic and information packets with real-time traffic to separate queues, means (316, 410) for removing information packets with non real-time traffic from said non real-time traffic queue.

  • Publication number: 20050259616
Abstract: Data transport methods, a radio network controller, a network element, and a computer program are provided. The method includes: forming a transport channel data stream from at least a portion of a logical channel data stream; forming a high-speed downlink packet access data stream from at least a portion of a logical channel data stream; and multiplexing at least a portion of the transport channel data stream and at least a portion of the high-speed downlink packet access data stream into a virtual channel.

  • Publication number: 20050213590
Abstract: The invention proposes a network node comprising modules (1, 2, 3, 4, 6; 7) including transport functions in order to support a particular network transport protocol, wherein the transport functions are realized by software. The invention also proposes a method for operating the network node. Different network transport protocols are supported with the same hardware by installing corresponding software.

  • Publication number: 20050102420
Abstract: The present invention relates to a shared network system, sharing method and router device for routing data packets in an IP transport network. Separate dedicated link layers having predetermined dedicated link capacities are allocated for transmitting and/or receiving data packets, wherein the dedicated link layers share an available capacity of a real link layer or physical layer. Thereby, multiple virtual networks assigned to customers can be operated in parallel and managed completely independently. Furthermore, tunneling mechanisms with their associated transmission overhead are no longer required.
