  • Patent number: 8261775
Abstract: A scavenging valve assembly is used in a carburetor. The valve assembly includes a throttle valve and a rotary air valve. The throttle valve opens and closes an air-fuel passage. The rotary air valve opens and closes an air passage and has one or more air bore(s). When the rotary air valve begins to rotate, airflow travels through the bore(s) and the size of an opening area that airflow travels through continuously increases in size.

  • Patent number: 7971858
Abstract: A carburetor includes a main body defining a bore, a main passage and a venturi defined within the bore, and a fuel nozzle carried by the main body and including a fuel nozzle outlet communicating with the venturi. The carburetor may also include a valve member translatable across an axis of the bore, such that in a closed state, the valve member closes the main passage but maintains the venturi at least partially open. The carburetor may also include a needle valve disposed at an end of the fuel nozzle substantially opposite of the fuel nozzle outlet to variably control flow of fuel into a fuel nozzle inlet, and a needle valve transmission may be coupled between a throttle shaft and the needle valve to convert rotation of the throttle shaft to translation of the needle valve.

  • Patent number: 7753347
Abstract: A valve is used with a carburetor, and the carburetor therefor. The valve has a throttle valve and an air valve. The air valve defines an air bore and has a baffle disposed within the air bore. The baffle separates one section of the air bore from another section, and impedes airflow through the air bore during at least some positions of the air valve.

  • Patent number: 6481699
Abstract: An acceleration device of a carburetor for a two cycle engine with a rotary dual valve which controls air flow through both a scavenging passage and a separate air intake passage each extending through a carburetor body. The carburetor body houses a metering fuel chamber and an air reference chamber defined by a diaphragm between them. Fuel in the metering fuel chamber is discharged through a port into the air intake passage. An acceleration pump has an actuation chamber which communicates with the scavenging passage and a pump chamber which communicates with the air reference chamber and a membrane between them. During engine acceleration the membrane is displaced by a pressure introduced into the actuation chamber to forcibly send air into the air reference chamber from the pump chamber to move, the diaphragm into the metering fuel chamber, and thereby increase the fuel delivered to the air intake passage.

  • Patent number: 6431527
Abstract: A rotary throttle valve carburetor for a two cycle engine reroutes a portion of intake air and introduces the air around the circumference of a fuel feed tube. A rotary throttle, rotatable and vertically moveable, fits into a cylindrical chamber intersecting an air intake channel through a carburetor body. A needle supported by the rotary throttle fits into the fuel feed tube which extends from a fuel metering chamber within the carburetor body into a throttling bore extending laterally through the rotary throttle. An intake portion of the air intake channel expands conically toward an upstream side. An air guide tube is aligned co-axially and radially outward from a fuel feed tube forming an air passageway there between. The intake air portion flows through the air passage from the intake portion of the air intake channel and into a bottom space of the cylindrical chamber beneath the rotary throttle.

  • Patent number: 6382599
Abstract: A circuit for delivering fuel into a valve chamber of a rotary throttle valve type carburetor. The fuel delivery circuit includes a fuel supply nozzle, protruding into the valve chamber and fixed at the bottom of the valve chamber to the carburetor body, and an intermediate wall. The intermediate wall is connected to the bottom of the carburetor body. The intermediate wall has a first chamber defined therein, a second chamber defined therein, and structure which cooperatively defines a first passage and a second passage therein. The first passage communicates the first chamber to the fixed end of the fuel supply nozzle, and the second passage communicates the second chamber to the first chamber. In addition, the fuel delivery circuit also includes an enclosure having a pressurized fuel chamber disposed under the intermediate wall, wherein the intermediate wall cooperatively defines a third passage that communicates the pressurized fuel chamber to the second chamber.

  • Patent number: 6334606
Abstract: A carburetor for a stratified type scavenging engine has a scavenging air supply passage with an air valve therein, a fuel and air mixture passage having a throttle valve therein, a diaphragm which defines a negative pressure chamber on one side and an atmospheric chamber on its other side, and a low pressure passage that communicates a venturi portion of the fuel and air mixing passage with the negative pressure chamber. The air valve is responsive to movement of the diaphragm caused by the pressure differential across it to move the air valve between open and closed positions and a spring yieldably biases the air valve towards its closed position. The air valve is not directly mechanically connected or linked to the throttle valve. Thus, when the throttle valve is rapidly opened during engine acceleration, the air valve is not immediately rapidly opened and is not significantly opened until a sufficient pressure differential exists across the diaphragm.
