  • Patent number: 4924672
Abstract: A heat exchanger for lowering the temperature of exhaust gas emitted from an internal combustion engine has a container body adapted to store water which serves a heat exchanging medium therein, an exhaust gas discharging chamber adapted to discharge the exhaust gas from the engine into the water in the form of gas-bubbles, a partition member mounted above the surface of water stored within said container body so as to catch splash of water, water-bubbles and vapor generated by evaporation of water and drop them within the container body; an exhaust gas inlet formed in the peripheral side surface of the container body and connected to exhaust pipe for the engine; an exhaust gas introduction passage for connecting the exhaust gas inlet and the exhaust gas discharging chamber; an exhaust gas exit chamber defined in the uppermost part of the inside of the container body; and an exhaust gas outlet pipe connected to the top of said container body to discharge the exhaust gas within the exhaust gas discharge chambe

  • Patent number: 4481773
Abstract: A turbo-supercharging system for an internal combustion engine of a vehicle having an air brake system wherein compressed air is preferentially supplied to the air brake system and surplus air is used for supercharging the engine. The system includes an air compressor driven by the engine, an air reservoir tank for storing compressed air therein and supplying it to a turbine of a turbo-supercharger when required, and a solenoid-operated valve disposed in a conduit interconnecting the air tank and the air compressor. The solenoid-operated valve is normally held in its block position and adapted to be changed over to its communication position when air pressure in the air brake system exceeds a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4471615
Abstract: A combination of turbo and inertia supercharger for an internal combustion engine. A blower of a turbosupercharger is connected with a damping volume such as a surge tank for supplying compressed air thereto. A plurality of elongated intake pipes are provided for connecting the damping volume with intake ports formed in a cylinder head. As a result, an increased supercharging effect can be obtained compared with a turbosupercharger alone. In a preferred embodiment, the elongated intake pipes are made spiral form saving spaces for installation.

  • Patent number: 4157881
Abstract: A turbosupercharger provided with means for preventing lubricant fatigue comprising a center housing having an inlet and an outlet for lubricant, a turbine casing mounted on said center housing at one end thereof, a compressor casing fixedly secured to said center housing at the other end thereof, and a turbine shaft rotatably mounted within said center housing, said turbine shaft having a turbine rotor at one end thereof within said turbine casing and a compressor rotor at the other end thereof within said compressor casing. The center housing has a chamber formed therein so as to receive lubricant slung out of the periphery of said turbine shaft and a communication hole formed therein to connect the inlet for lubricant with said chamber thereby injecting pressurized lubricant into said chamber through said communication hole.

  • Patent number: 4111598
Abstract: A turbine casing for superchargers having a baffle wall formed therewithin with the inclination inclined at about 30.degree. to 35.degree. relative to a perpendicular to the axis of a turbine impeller so that the inside of the turbine casing is formed into two flow paths where the exhaust pressure wave is passed through. One of the flow paths has on the side wall thereof opposite to the baffle wall an inclined surface inclined at about 10.degree. to 15.degree. relative to the perpendicular in an opposite direction to the inclination of the baffle wall. The other flow path has on the side surface thereof opposite to the baffle wall an inclined surface inclined at about 55.degree. to 60.degree. relative to the perpendicular in the same direction as the inclination of the baffle wall. Each flow path is uniform in cross section throughout its entire volute.

  • Patent number: 4101241
Abstract: A supercharger comprising a center housing, a turbine casing mounted on said center housing, a turbine shaft rotatably supported within said center housing, said turbine shaft having a turbine impeller at one end thereof within said turbine casing, a seal provided on said turbine shaft to prevent lubricant leakage from said center housing to said turbine casing, a heat shroud mounted on said turbine shaft between said center housing and said turbine casing, and a pressure hole formed in said heat shroud which permits communication of the inner and outer parts thereof thereby applying a high pressure in the inside part of said heat shroud to enhance sealing effect of said seal.
