  • Patent number: 6055837
Abstract: A horizontal roll guide device HG or a friction guide device FG is disposed in front, and in the proximity, of a finish universal mill FU of a rolling process of a shape steel having a flange and a web so as to restrict the center portion of the web in the transverse direction, the finish universal mill includes barrel width-variable horizontal rolls 1a and 1b, and axes XV of vertical rolls 2a and 2b are moved by a distance d on the entry side of the rolling direction relatively to the axes XH of the barrel width-variable horizontal rolls 1a and 1b to as to restrict the web. Due to the synergistic effect of these two restriction effects, web curving and web off-center of the web when the web of the shape steel is rolled from axial direction by the vertical rolls 2a and 2b by setting the roll width of the barrel width-variable horizontal rolls can be restricted. Accordingly, a variety of shape steels having a flange and various web heights can be produced very accurately.

  • Patent number: 4966026
Abstract: This invention relates to an edging roll for rolling the flange edges (12a) of a rolling material (12), specifically to an edging roll which is adaptable commonly to rolled sections having different dimensions and is capable to roll the flange edges with the web portion of the rolling material guided. The web guide roll (10) is ring-shaped and rotatable along the outer periphery of the outer eccentric sleeve (6). When rolling material is changed according to a schedule in rolling mill operation, the inner eccentric sleeve (5) is rotated along the outer periphery of the flange roll (8) and set there, the outer eccentric sleeve (6) is rotated along the outer periphery of the inner eccentric sleeve (5) and set there. And the flange roll (8) is set at a position of rolling the flange edges, and the web guide roll (10) is at a position of restraining and guiding the web portion.

  • Patent number: 4685319
Abstract: Rolling method and apparatus for forming sections having a flange connected to a web. Between two optional steps of roughing, intermediate rolling, and finishing steps, rolls 15, 15', 16, and 16' are arranged to expand the web in the widthwise direction. The rolls 15, 15', 16, and 16' fall in contact with the inner sides 21 and 22 of flanges. The rolls 15, 15', 16, and 16' may be engaged with the upper and lower faces of the web. The axes of the rolls 15, 15', 16, and 16' may be inclined at a predetermined angle .theta.h in a direction horizontally rectangular to the rolling direction. It is preferred that the axes of the rolls 15, 15', 16, and 16' be vertically inclined at an angle .theta.v to the horizontal plane.

  • Patent number: 4503700
Abstract: A rail is rolled from a hot-rolled bloom having a square or rectangular cross section by a method which is constituted by the steps of breakdown rolling, universal rolling, which is effected by causing the bloom to travel through a plurality of stands making only a single pass on each stand, base-wheel rolling, head-wheel rolling and edging. The bloom is broken down into substantially H-shaped beam blank whose cross section is symmetrical with respect to the center line of its web. In the base-wheel rolling, the flanges of the blank corresponding to the head and base of the rail are respectively rolled widthwise and thicknesswise in three or more passes using a pair of horizontal rolls and a vertical roll, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4503699
Abstract: The rail is rolled by the steps of breakdown rolling, reforming rolling, first and second universal rolling, head-wheel rolling and base-wheel rolling in that order. The reforming rolling is performed using a pair of horizontal rolls provided with a reforming pass and a head-wheel pass and a vertical roll adapted to reduce the base of the rail, with the paired horizontal rolls, together with said vertical roll, shifted and set in such a position where the reforming pass matches the pass line of the first universal rolling pass. The head-wheel rolling is performed using the same paired horizontal rolls and a vertical roll adapted to reduce the head of the rail, with the paired horizontal rolls, together with said vertical roll, shifted and set in such a position where the head-wheel pass matches the pass line of the second universal rolling pass.
