  • Patent number: 11706465
Abstract: An Event Streams ‘event’ which contains information about ads is sent via ATSC 3.0 to a receiver player along with an xlinkResolution signal. This information includes but is not limited to time stamps for when the ads will start and stop. When this xlinkResolution is sent to the receiver player, the receiver player sends a notification to a broadcaster app containing the information about start and stop time for presenting the ad. Using this information, the broadcaster app updates itself so that, for example, the broadcaster app can present a message on a user interface regarding the subject of the ad, or present content related to but different from the ad along with the ad itself.

  • Patent number: 11671953
Abstract: A media rendering device and method for scan of channels on the media rendering device is provided. The media rendering device determines a first geographical region associated with a location of the media rendering device. A first set of over-the-air (OTA) channels may be communicated in the first geographical region. The media rendering device determines a second geographical region within a threshold distance from the location of the media rendering device. A second set of OTA channels may be communicated in the second geographical region. The media rendering device receives a first user input to scan the first set of OTA channels and the second set of OTA channels, and configures the first set of OTA channels and the second set of OTA channels on the media rendering device, based on the scan of the first set of OTA channels and the second set of OTA channels.

  • Patent number: 11647178
Abstract: Techniques are described for expanding and/or improving the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 television protocol in robustly delivering the next generation broadcast television services. Test code is embedded in ATSC 3.0 content to determine whether a receiver can render the content. The results are reported back to the broadcaster, which can alter content or perform other modifications based on aggregated rendering statistics.

  • Patent number: 11606528
Abstract: Techniques are described for expanding and/or improving the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 television protocol in robustly delivering the next generation broadcast television services. A dynamic MPD can be supplemented by offline descriptor information transmitted OTA at display time so that the descriptor information, e.g., language information, captioning information, and the like, can be immediately presented on a UI.

  • Patent number: 11350138
Abstract: JavaScript in a Multiview template adjusts playout of two AV streams of the same event from two buffers such that the two streams are synchronized on a display. The playout from one buffer is adjusted based on an observed difference between actual playout times of frames from the respective buffers with the same timestamps.

  • Patent number: 11323778
Abstract: An electronic device and method are provided for display of a programming guide for content associated with broadcaster and VOD applications. The electronic device receives a DTV signal that include programming content items associated with broadcaster applications on the electronic device and extracts a set of in-band metadata associated with programming content items. The electronic device selects a set of VOD assets offered by at least one VOD application on the electronic device and extracts a set of out-of-band metadata associated with the programming content items and the selected set of VOD assets from at least one metadata source. The electronic device parses the set of in-band metadata and the set of out-of-band metadata and combines such parsed sets of metadata into a unified metadata file based on a master template. Based on the unified metadata file, the electronic device controls a display device to render a programming guide.

  • Publication number: 20210329348
Abstract: Techniques for using Xlinks for multiple advertisement tags to be applied together as an ad event, triggered by metadata that may be carried in, e.g., an ATSC 3.0 media presentation description (MPD) or separately as individual ad tags each of which may be programmable. Ad events are timed, JavaScript-controlled, TV canvas presentations using XLinks to signal an ad avail to which there are multiple ad choices that can be chosen for display. Multiple ad tags get treated as an Ad event, the timing and syncing of ads for an ad event, programmable ads that serve not only a single purpose but can morph from a single function to multi-function, ads that serve multiple functions (generate coupon or to generate monetization information), and ads that are monetized that have attribution built in to their display. Once finished the ad records its playout details (time, location, even profile of viewer).

  • Patent number: 11153640
Abstract: Techniques are described for expanding and/or improving the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 television protocol in robustly delivering the next generation broadcast television services. XLINKS are staged in successively faster memories of the receiver as ad insertion time approaches such that the entire segment can be viewed holistically and dynamically referenced, where all segment ads are available instantly when stored in SDRAM mode as compared to FLASH or coming from the Cloud. Each parsed item has its own timing to be synchronized with other DASH segment items for a single view experience.

  • Patent number: 9875012
Abstract: In an embodiment, a computer memory that is not a transitory has instructions executable by a processor to present on a display of a mobile device a user interface (UI) facilitating media shifting between the mobile device and an audio video device (AVD) separate from the mobile device. The UI has a grid of thumbnails, with each thumbnail being associated with a respective media asset. Responsive to a user touching and dragging a first thumbnail of the grid, a drop region is presented outside the grid indicating that a drop of the thumbnail will cause the media asset associated with the first thumbnail to be presented on the AVD. Responsive to a user releasing the first thumbnail in the drop region, a signal is sent to the AVD to cause the AVD to present the media asset associated with the first thumbnail.

  • Publication number: 20170230712
Abstract: Various aspects of a system and a method to filter content are disclosed herein. In accordance with an embodiment, the system includes receipt of an input by a television (TV), which may enable selection of a viewing mode on the TV. A first set of content items is determined. The first set of content items is suitable for viewing by an age group associated with the selected viewing mode. A consolidated view may be generated. The consolidated view may include one or more selectable links to enable viewing of one or more of the determined first set of content items on the TV.

  • Patent number: 9590753
Abstract: Certain aspects of an apparatus and method for multiple media output may include a network comprising one or more media rendering devices communicably connected to a media manager. The media manager may be operable to separate a received single media signal into a first channel carrying a first content and a second channel carrying a second content. The media manager may be operable to wirelessly transmit first content via the first channel to a first media rendering device of the one or more media rendering devices and second content via the second channel to a second media rendering device of the one or more media rendering devices.
