  • Patent number: 7847812
Abstract: A label pattern can be created on a label side of an optical disc under well focus control. An optical disc is first loaded in an optical disc drive with the label side thereof facing to an optical head of the optical disc drive. Then, the optical head is actuated along a focusing direction. Meanwhile, a light intensity addition signal is generated in response to optical signals reflected from the optical disc and received by the optical head. A closed-loop control operation of the optical head is performed according to the light intensity addition signal after the light intensity addition signal up-crosses a threshold. Then, a label pattern can be defined on the label side of the optical disc with the closed-loop control operation.

  • Patent number: 7710837
Abstract: A label side of a light-scribe optical disc includes a control feature zone recording therein reference information of the optical disc and a label zone to be marked based on the reference information. An optical head is moved in the label zone to determine a first FE gain and a first sub-beam addition (SBAD) signal by way of focusing servo technology. The optical head is further moved in the control feature zone to determine a second SBAD Signal. The first and second SBAD signals are operated to obtain a ratio. The ratio is used with the first FE gain to estimate a second FE gain for accessing to the control feature zone.

  • Publication number: 20090196582
Abstract: An optical disc writer includes an optical pickup head and a supporting portion for supporting an optical disc having a central hole, an annular label zone and an annular control feature zone located therebetween. The optical pickup head includes a red light source, a blue light source, a red lens and a blue lens. The red light source emits a red laser beam penetrating through the red lens to write a label onto the annular label zone. The blue light source emits a blue laser beam penetrating through the blue lens, which is disposed between the central hole and the red lens, and travelling to the annular control feature zone. Thus, the optical pickup head reads information of the annular control feature zone and the red lens is moved to the annular label zone according to the information in order to write the label onto the corresponding annular label zone.

  • Publication number: 20090196132
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method used in an optical disk drive for improving focus accuracy of an optical pickup head. Firstly, during each one revolution of the optical disk, RFinitial, RFfirst and RFsecond are calculated respectively when the optical disk drive are driven by FOOinitial?, FOOfirst and FOOsecond respectively. Then, an optimal FOO signal is acquired according to the comparison of RFinitial, RFfirst and RFsecond.

  • Patent number: 7483047
Abstract: An inner ring signal and an outer ring signal according to specific patterns formed on the label side of the optical disc are generated. Timing starts when the outer ring signal reveals the end of a positioning pattern and stops to obtain a timing value when the inner ring signal reveals the start of a square wave defining a specified spoke. A starting spoke is defined according to the inner ring signal and the specified spoke. A deviation bit value is calculated according to the timing value and a bit number of a data to be marked on a certain track of the optical disc. The data is rotated according to the deviation bit value, and then marked on the certain track, starting with the starting spoke.

  • Patent number: 7414928
Abstract: A method for determining a sub-beam add signal (SBAD) value is provided. At first, a jth read SBAD value is obtained at the jth read status. Next, the jth write SBAD value is determined according to the (j?1)th write SBAD gain at the jth write status. Then, the jth SBAD multiple is obtained according to the jth write SBAD value and the jth read SBAD value. Next, the (j?1)th write SBAD gain is changed into the jth write SBAD gain according to the jth SBAD multiple. At last, the level of the (j+1)th write SBAD value is adjusted according to the jth write SBAD gain at the (j+1)th write status.

  • Publication number: 20050030858
Abstract: The invention uses a thermistor to detect the ambient temperature of a pickup head. When the temperature is higher than a first predetermined temperature, the speed of the spindle motor of the optical disk drive is decreased for eliminating the heat produced from the power driver and actuator. In this way, the pickup head can be protected from burning out or suffering heat-related damage.
