Selection of menus is simplified by allowing selection of more than one input such as direct touching of the screen, virtual keyboards or roller buttons. A focus marker in the form of a border around a field may be used to limit the area of selection. An object menu icon is visible without needing a right click of a mouse to make selection of the menu easier. The selection of options is localized and parsed at the network server before a response to the user selection is sent back to the terminal.

A predetermined set of categories comprising objects with location dependent information are retrieved and criteria is determined for the objects to be retrieved. Abstract: A technique for inputting data, such as selecting a particular function of electronic device, using a touch screen of the electronic device, includes detecting when an object, such as a finger or a stylus or a pointed object, is touching the touch screen and detecting when the object is no longer touching the touch screen. The location of the object touching the touch screen is also detected. The time duration from the time of detection of the object first touching the touch screen until the time of detection of the object no longer touching the touch screen is detected. A determination of the data being inputted, such as the particular function of the electronic device being selected, is made based on the detected location of the object on the touch screen and the measured time duration.

In one embodiment, the item on the touch screen is touched with a pressure greater than a first predetermined pressure for a first predetermined period of time. The pressure on the item is then reduced, and the item is dragged with the reduced pressure to a second location at which the touch screen is touched with a pressure greater than a second predetermined pressure for a time duration greater than a second predetermined time period. In another embodiment, the item on the touch screen is touched with a pressure greater than a predetermined pressure for a first predetermined period of time, and then the touch screen is touched at a second location with a pressure greater than the predetermined pressure for a second predetermined period of time, less than the first predetermined period of time.

The wireless devices for various members of the family can access a common database, which produces an appearance of a bulletin board having notes attached thereto. The notes may be generated manually, may be generated from e.g. a calendar, or may be the result of a short message service contact. The notes may be of various colors to indicate their origin or importance. The notes may be moved around on the board and any member of the family may generate new notes.

The system includes at least one terminal (20, 21)that is part of a group and capable of wireless communication, an Access Provider (AP) unit (22), an Internet Service Provider (ISP) (24), a server (28) for authenticating the terminal (20, 21), and a global unit (34)for providing the internet address of the server (28) to the terminal (20, 21). The method includes the steps of powering on the terminal (20, 21), establishing a communication link with a gateway to obtain an internet address for the terminal (20, 21) relative to an internet address of the gateway, obtaining an internet address for the server (28), and establishing a shared communication session between the terminal (20, 21) and the server (28) to allow access to information management services.

The first internet web page may be displayed on a display of the terminal. Features of the first internet web page may be displayed within a first active window of the terminal. A user may subsequently select the first active window and have a browser reaccess the first internet web page. The first internet web page may then be displayed again on the display.
