Abstract: A framework for in-row cooling is described herein. The cooling system employs a fan unit with a plurality of smaller fans for improving the spread of air flowing through a V-shaped heat exchanger. The use of multiple smaller fans and the V-shaped heat exchanger enables the cooling system to be cooled using ambient temperature water or processed water at ambient temperature.

The system module is connected to a storage plane with hard drives through a mid-plane with power and data channels. The system module can be easily replaced or upgraded independently of the mid-plane and storage plane. This extends the life cycle of the server chassis and associated components such as hard drives and power module when upgrading, resulting in overall savings for the owner of this system.

The system comprises a recorder to continuously record data directly from a live network over a selected period of time. The system also comprises a simulator to create a simulated network based on the data recorded by the recorder, so that a network management application can be run against the simulated network. Conveniently, the system further comprises a selector to allow a user to identify at least one network device that is to be recorded. The selector may also be used to allow the user to specify the network device's parameters and/or properties that are to be recorded by the recorder, and to select the period of time that the recorder is to continuously record data from the live network.

A network discovery database for a managed network is accessed, wherein the network discovery database includes device information and connectivity information for a plurality of devices of the managed network. A build file describing the simulated network is automatically generated based on the network discovery database. A user is able to create and edit a simulated network based on an actual managed network, thereby obviating the need for manually coding a simulated network.

The method includes defining a data structure to hold a data set; opening a socket connection to the device; sending instructions to return the command data for an index value; storing the returned command data in the data structure; incrementing the index value, repeating the sending, the storing and the incrementing till the index value exceeds the depth of command data to be captured; and writing the command data captured in the data structure to a file. The depth of command data to be captured or stored can be defined by specifying an index value in the data structure.
