If it is determined that the file is of corresponding machine type, the dropped file is registered in the file registration list of the dropped connectable machine type.

Abstract: If a model data file 84 cannot be entirely displayed in the data file display area 82, the display scale of the model data file 84 is compressed to make display setting such that the coordinate X3, Y3 on the right end portion at the lower end side in the column direction of the model data file 84 is displayed on the lower edge portion of the data file display area 82. Further, the tape display area 81 is compressed by about 57% in the vertical direction of the screen, and accordingly, the data file display area 82 is expanded in the vertical direction of the screen. At the same time, display setting is made such that the coordinate X3, Y3 on the display screen at the right end portion at the lower end side in the column direction of the model data file 84 is displayed on the lower edge portion of the expanded data file display area 82.

When the printing apparatus is changed, or the medium set in the printing apparatus is changed while the editing program is being operated, a new layout-editing screen is displayed in which a new printing apparatus, or a new medium, is set as the printing apparatus, or the medium, to be used.

Abstract: In a data processing, a print area is divided into a text area for arranging text data and an image area for arranging image data. The image data is proportionally modified before arranging the data in the image area. Also, the text data is reformatted by, for example, deleting unnecessary line feed codes before arranging the data in the text area.

Abstract: When a plurality of layout styles are applied successively, enables deletion of an object displayed up to then to be controlled corresponding to user's convenience of use. If application of a layout style is instructed from an operator, whether an object exists in an object memory area is checked and, unless any object exists, an object is added according to the layout style. If an object exists, whether deletion set in each object is permissible is checked and all objects permitted to be deleted are deleted. After that, an object application procedure for matching an object that is not deleted with an object in the layout style is executed and its application result is displayed.

Abstract: When a character key is pressed for inputting a character (S103: YES), the inputted character is stored in RAM so that the character will be inserted into the position of a caret in a character string (S105). The size of each character is determined based on the length of the character string containing the added character, etc., while the length of a tape image is changed based on the determined character size and the number of lines of the character strings so that the whole character string can be accommodated in the tape image (S106). When the caret goes out of a display range (S108: NO), the tape image is moved so that the caret will be within the display range (S109), by which the operator is allowed to easily check actual layout of a printed tape without the need of performing a complicated manual operation.

Abstract: An improvement in the technique to create output image includes creating on output template data by automatically replacing template character train data, which is created based on an output format, with data that is inputted by an operator and has the same identification as the template data. The created output data is the same as it is inputted by an operator based on the format. As the data, which is inputted without regard to the format, can be used for creating output image data with this method, an operator does not need to input data based on a predetermined format, thereby reducing an operator's burden.

Abstract: Disclosed is a composite picture processing device for processing a composite picture consisting of a plurality of picture components. In the composite picture processing device, when a plurality of candidate patterns of one of the picture components is displayed, currently selected patterns for the other picture components is combined to each of the candidate patterns. Further, a mouse is provided to select one of the candidate patterns displayed.
