    Abstract: A vibration compensation mode selection apparatus and associated visual display for a camera which allows a photographer to enable or disable a vibration compensation unit while receiving visual feedback regarding the operation state of the vibration compensation unit and information regarding the vibrations detected within the camera. A vibration detection unit is provided to output a signal indicating the amount and direction of vibrations experienced by the camera. A vibration compensation unit drives the vibration compensation lens perpendicular to the optical axis of a photographic lens system to correct for the vibrations detected by the vibration detection unit. A button is provided on the front face of the camera to enable the photographer to disable the vibration compensation unit by pressing the button. A display unit is provided to indicate to the photographer whether the vibration compensation system has been enabled or disabled.

    Abstract: A camera having improvements in (a) the placement of anti-vibration sensors, (b) the connection between components of an anti-vibration mechanism, (c) the connection between the anti-vibration mechanism and external testing devices and (d) the connection of the camera to a tripod. The camera body has first and second ends and a photographic lens which is positioned on the camera body between the first end and the second end. A battery compartment, first and second anti-vibrations sensors and a main capacitor are all positioned in the first end of the camera body. The first anti-vibration sensor is positioned between the battery compartment and the photographic lens. The first and second anti-vibration sensors reside on the same sensor card and the sensor card has a connector mounted thereon. An anti-vibration CPU resides on a separate, flexible printed circuit card and is connected to the anti-vibration sensors by inserting a potion of the flexible printed circuit card into the connector on the sensor card.

    Abstract: A motor speed control device, preferably for use in a camera, controls a motor to rotate at a constant speed in accordance with a pulsed signal output from a motor speed detector, such as a photointerrupter. To overcome the control problems that occur when the motor abnormally stops rotating, preventing generation of pulsed, the motor speed control device includes a timer that measures elapsed time from a most recent pulse. When the elapsed time exceeds a predetermined value, the motor speed control device accelerates the motor so that control of the motor at a constant speed can continue.

The electronic flash device also serve as a pre-light-emission device capable of performing pre-light-emission for the purpose of preventing red-eye effect. When it is judged from the photographing condition that red-eye effect may occur, a controller activates the electronic flash device to effect a pre-light-emission for reducing the size of pupils of eyes of a person to be photographed, before the main flashing which is executed in synchronization with the exposure.

    Abstract: A camera with a built-in self-timer, flash and autofocus is disclosed. The camera is switchable between normal and self-timer modes. When in the normal mode, the auto focus device measures distance at the beginning of a photographic cycle. In self-timer mode, the auto focus device measures the distance at the beginning of the photographic cycle, and after the self-timer has counted down from its set time. A decision to use the flash is based on the first distance measurement and the scene brightness in the normal mode, and on the second distance measurement and scene brightness in the self-timer mode. If the decision is yes, a checking apparatus checks whether the flash capacitor has sufficient charge, and if not charges the capacitor.

    Abstract: An electrically operated camera having a release means for effecting a shutter release action for the light exposure of film is capable of determining whether a film is loaded or not in the basis of the film feeding condition. A film feed detection means detects the action of a film being rewound by a film rewind means, and generates a signal upon detection. When a controller receives the signal during the film rewind action, the controller prevents the release means from effecting shutter release after the completion of the rewind action. When no signal is received during the rewind action, the controller permits the release means to effect shutter release after the completion of the rewind action. The action of the film feed condition may alternatively be detected when it is being wound by a film wind means. If it is determined that the camera is loaded with a film, release lock is effected so as to prevent the exposed frame from being subjected to any further exposure by the user.
