    Abstract: An overhead projector includes a housing including a stage which is formed in its top wall and on which a transparency bearing an image to be projected is placed and an air outlet formed in one of its two side walls, an exhaust fan incorporated in the housing for exhausting air in the housing through the air outlet of the housing, a projection light source such as a high illuminance halogen lamp disposed in the housing for illuminating the transparency on the stage from inside the housing, a projection head mounted for projecting a magnified image from the transparency on a screen and including a focusing lens and a reflecting mirror, a column mounted on the housing to hold the projection head over the stage, a Fresnel lens disposed inside the stage to converge light from the light source on the focusing lens of the projection head, a cooling fan, and air guides for guiding air delivered from the cooling fan so that the air flows along a surface of the stage.

    Abstract: A modified ethylenic random copolymer derived from 100 parts by weight of a base ethylenic random copolymer composed of 25 to 75 mole % of ethylene and 75 to 25 mole % of an alpha-olefin having 3 to 20 carbon atoms and grafted thereto, (a) 0.2 to 50 parts by weight of an unsaturated carboxylic acid having 3 to 10 carbon atoms or an anhydride or ester thereof, (b) 0.2 to 200 parts by weight of a styrene-type hydrocarbon having 8 to 12 carbon atoms, or (c) 0.2 to 300 parts by weight of an unsaturated silane compound having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, said modified ethylenic random copolymer having an intrinsic viscosity [.eta.], measured in decalin at 135.degree. C., of 0.01 to 1.5 dl/g and a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn), measured by gel permeation chromatography, of not more than 4.

    Abstract: There is provided a liquid oxidatively modified ethylenic random copolymer, which is an oxidatively modified product of a liquid ethylenic random coplymer comprising 20 to 80 mol % of ethylene and 80 to 20 mol % of .alpha.-olefin, and has (i) a number average molecular weight (Mn) in the range of from 200 to 10,000, (ii) a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) given as weight average molecular weight (Mw) divided by number average molecular weight (Mn) in the range of up to 4, and (iii) an oxygen content of from 0.1 to 20% by weight, an acid value of from 0.1 to 50, and a saponification value of from 0.1 to 100. It is prepared by contacting a corresponding ethylenic random copolymer with oxygen-containing gas at 100.degree.-250.degree. C.

    Abstract: A liquid polymer composition contains:(A) a liquid low molecular weight ethylene-.alpha.-olefin copolymer comprising 30 to 70 mol % of ethylene component units and 30 to 70 mol % of .alpha.-olefin component units, having a number average molecular weight (Mn) in the range of 150 to 10000, with a Q-value (weight average molecular weight/number average molecular weight) of 3 or less, and(B) A high molecular weight polymer which is in an amount of 0.05 to 100 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the liquid low molecular weight polymer (A), having a number average molecular weight (Mn) of 20000 or higher, witha Q-value of 6 or less, and is soluble in the liquid low molecular weight polymer (A), which liquid polymer composition has an excellent viscosity characteristic, lubrication characteristic, and oxidation stability, without denaturation by moisture adsorption, and therefore, is suitable for use as an actuation oil.

    Abstract: A process for preparing an artificial biological membrane in which an aqueous solution containing 6 wt % or more of polyvinyl alcohol having a degree of hydrolysis of not less than 95 mol % and an average polymerization degree of not less than 700 and containing a biological substance or a substance which does not hinder the gelation of the polyvinyl alcohol is subjected to a freezing step followed by a thawing step. Then, the mass thus obtained is further subjected to at least one additional cyclic processing step including the freezing and thawing steps. The product hydrogel is hard or not too soft and not swollen in water.

    Abstract: According to the invention, a deformable bag for use as a cooling medium is provided. The bag comprises small pieces of gel packed in a flexible envelope. The gel is prepared by casting into a mold an aqueous solution or suspension containing a polyvinyl alcohol and a water-soluble organic compound, and cooling the cast aqueous solution or suspension to -10.degree. C. or lower and then partially, dehydrating, without thawing, the thus obtained cooled mass in vacuum. The bag of the invention can be applied on different objects or portions having various configurations.
