    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device which comprises a pair of oppositely facing electrode substrates formed an alignment film on their surface and a liquid crystal filling the space between said electrode substrates, wherein the alignment film comprises an alicyclic polyimide obtained by polycondensation of a tetracarboxylic acid and a diamine, at least one of which is alicyclic and useful for a twisted nematic liquid crystal display device.
