  • Patent number: 6270922
Abstract: The present invention aims to produce the material for a battery container having the improved battery performance, wherein the internal resistance caused by contacting with the positive electrode mix is remarkably reduced and the corrosion resistance is excellent. It also aims to produce the material, wherein powdering is reduced at the inner surface of the battery container during forming. Furthermore, it aims to produce a battery container manufactured using the material and a battery manufactured using the battery container. The surface treated steel sheet of the present invention for a battery container is comprising a steel substrate on which one side to be the inner surface of the battery container nickel- tin-iron diffusion layer is formed on the uppermost surface. On the side to be the outer surface of the battery container nickel-cobalt-iron diffusion layer is formed on the uppermost surface.

  • Patent number: 6261718
Abstract: A battery case which has a high quality and is suitable for continuous forming and a surface-treated steel sheet which can be used suitably for manufacturing the battery case. The battery case is manufactured by forming, by the DI or DTR forming method, a surface-treated steel sheet obtained by plating the external and internal surfaces of an original steel sheet with a nickel-cobalt alloy. The nickel-cobalt alloy plated to both surfaces of the battery case can reduce the punching load in a cupping process, because the powdering property can be reduced remarkably. Therefore, the scratching of a die and a punch caused by metallic contact can be suppressed and the service lives of the die and the punch are prolonged, and then, the continuous productivity of the battery case can be improved. In addition, the case has a good lubricant retaining property, the removing property (stripping property) of the battery case which is an important factor for the DI or DTR formability can be improved.

  • Patent number: 6248456
Abstract: The object of the present invention is to provide a surface-treated steel sheet, the surface of which is provided with a coating film formed by using after-treatment solution containing carbon black or graphite, carboxy methylcelluolse, and an aqueous organic resin composed of acrylic resin, polyester resin, urethane resin or phenolic resin, thus having a low contact resistance, excellent corrosion-resistance and excellent adhesion of the coating film and to provide a connection terminal member using the above mentioned surface-treated steel sheet. In order to achieve the object, the surface-treated steel sheet of the present invention has a surface provided with a coating film containing carbon black or graphite, carboxy methylcellulose, an aqueous organic resin such as acrylic resin, polyester resin, urethane resin or phenolic resin, and a cross linking agent of the aqueous organic resin, the coating film being formed on a steel sheet which is plated with Zn, Ni, Sn, Co or any alloy of them.

  • Patent number: 6136107
Abstract: A steel sheet for a battery container is covered with nickel-tin alloy layer on one side to be the inner side of the battery container which is formed by drawing the steel sheet. A battery using the steel sheet is manufactured by firstly filling positive electrode mix consisting of manganese oxide, graphite and potassium hydroxide and secondly filling negative electrode active material consisting of zinc and potassium hydroxide in the battery container.

  • Patent number: 6022631
Abstract: Adhesion of nickel plated steel sheets with each other, which is apt to occur during producing a steel sheet in which nickel is diffused by heat treatment of a nickel plated steel sheet in an annealing furnace, is prevented. A nickel plated steel sheet having a nickel-iron diffusion layer of 0.5-10 .mu.m thickness, a nickel plated layer thereon of 0.5-10 .mu.m thickness, and a silicon oxide layer thereon as an amount of silicon of 0.1-2.5 mg/m.sup.2 are formed on at least one face of a cold rolled steel plate. After the nickel is plated on the cold rolled steel plate, silicon hydrate is precipitated by dipping or electrolysis treatment in a bath of sodium orthosilicate as a main component, followed by heat treatment.

  • Patent number: 5993994
Abstract: Surface treated steel sheets for battery containers according to the present invention are composed of two surfaces, one of which is to be used as an inner surface of a battery container and the other as an outer surface of a battery container. On the inner surface, between the topmost nickel-tin alloy layer and the base steel sheet are formed intermediate layer(s) of nickel-iron, or nickel and nickel-iron, or nickel-tin-iron and nickel-iron. The present invention also relates to battery containers and batteries made from these surface treated steel sheets.
