    Abstract: A furnace body is partly or thoroughly made of a metal material. An inner peripheral face of the metal material portion is covered by a lining. Spray means for cooling the lining of a relatively thin portion via the metal material portion of the furnace body is disposed outside the furnace body. When wastes are to be melted, wastes are melted under a state where the spray means sprays coolant on the outer face of the furnace body and cools the lining, thereby preventing erosion of the lining from occurring.
