    Abstract: A projection-type image display apparatus includes an imaging light generation portion which generates imaging light, a housing which stores the imaging light generation portion, and a passage region provided in the housing, through which the imaging light emitted from the imaging light generation portion passes. The housing has a movable portion of which dimension in at least one direction varies, and the passage region is stored in the housing by means of the movable portion while imaging light is not projected.
