    Abstract: A control device for controlling current supply to a resistance heater 2a for pre-heating an electrically heated catalyst 2 includes a controller 7 which begins to supply current to the resistance heater 2a when the ignition switch 8 is turned to the HEAT contact position, provided that the battery voltage is above an appropriate level. After the electrically heated catalyst 2 is thus pre-heated above a predetermined temperature, the controller 7 returns the ignition switch 8 either to the START contact to crank the engine or to the ON contact to wait for the driver to start the engine.
