  • Patent number: 5911361
Abstract: A viscous heater includes a heat generating chamber 10 of a sealed structure. The viscous heater is further provided with a storage chamber SR, which is in communication with the heat generating chamber 10 at its central part, via a recovery hole 3c, a feed groove 3f and a feed hole 3e formed in a rear plate 3 and a rear housing 4. The storage chamber SR can store an amount of the viscous fluid, which exceeds the volume of a heat generating gap between an inner surface of the heat generating chamber and an outer surface of a rotor 16. The speed of degradation of the viscous fluid is slowed, while eliminating the necessity of a strict administration of a charged amount of the viscous fluid.

  • Patent number: 5901670
Abstract: A variable heat generating viscous fluid type heat generator having a housing assembly including movable and fixed plate members arranged to define an axially bounded region in which a heat generating chamber is formed to have an axial width which is changed by the axial movement of the movable plate member with respect to the fixed plate member within the housing assembly by the controlled operation of the moving unit. The change in the axial width of the heat generating chamber causes a change in the gap size of a fluid filled gap between the outer face of the rotor element and the inner wall surface of the heat generating chamber and, accordingly, the heat generating performance of the viscous fluid type heat generator is adjustably varied.

  • Patent number: 5881711
Abstract: A viscous heater is provided with a front side plate 2 and a rear side plate 3, which are arranged so that a heat generating chamber 5 is formed between their facing back surfaces and which are stored in a housing so that heat emission chambers FW and RW are formed between the side plates and the housing. The housing is formed by a front housing having a tubular part 1c which extends axially for storing the front and side plates radially inwardly of the tubular part 1c and a rear housing 4. Thus, sealing is necessary only at a location where the front and rear housings 1 and 4 are connected with each other. Thus, a very simple structure is sufficient for preventing any leakage of the recirculated fluid.

  • Patent number: 5881682
Abstract: A heat generator is disclosed that has its driving state constantly monitored and can be disconnected from a power source after an abnormality of its drive mechanism is detected. A plurality of holes are formed at equal angular intervals along the periphery of a disk-shaped rotor, which is capable of rotating in unison with a drive shaft. A magnetic sensor is mounted in a rear housing in a manner opposed to the holes. The drive shaft is selectively connected to the outer drive source via an electromagnetic clutch. A closed magnetic circuit, which is formed in the heat generator by magnetic flux leakage from the electromagnetic clutch, extends through the rotor and the magnetic sensor. When the rotor is rotating normally, the magnetic flux is periodically disturbed by the holes, and the magnetic sensor outputs a pulse signal indicative of the sensed periodic disturbance of the magnetic flux.

  • Patent number: 5391058
Abstract: A fluidic apparatus includes a pulley driven by an engine, torque limiting means disposed in the pulley and adapted to shut off the transmission of driving force transmitted by the pulley when overload is applied thereto, and a driving shaft driven by the torque limiting means. The torque limiting means includes a boss formed coaxially with the pulley, a collar disposed integrally and coaxially with the driving shaft, and a coiled spring adapted to hold outer peripheral surfaces of the boss and the collar by tightening with a predetermined tightening allowance. With the torque limiting means, if abnormal loads should be applied to the driving shaft, there hardly occur internal breakages, or the like, in the fluidic apparatus. In addition, because the torque limiting means has such a simple construction, the fluidic apparatus is down-sized and reduced in manufacturing cost.

  • Patent number: 5251537
Abstract: A hydraulic driving system uses a variable capacity type swash plate piston pump that discharges a fixed quantity of operation oil. The piston pump is provided with a swash plate and a swash-plate tilt angle control mechanism. The pump is operated by the engine to drawing discharge oil whose quantity corresponds to the tilt angle of the swash plate. An oil passage provided with a restriction, is connected to the discharge side of the piston pump. A control valve functions in accordance with the pressure difference between the input and output sides of that restriction to feed operation oil to the tilt angle control mechanism via the oil passage. A tilt angle generating mechanism in the tilt angle control mechanism, causes the oil controlled by the control valve to act on the swash plate in order to increase its tilt angle. A tilt angle return mechanism in the tilt angle control mechanism urges the swash plate to decrease the tilt angle.

  • Patent number: 5241821
Abstract: An improved hydraulic system for a vehicle includes a swash plate type variable capacity hydraulic pump that is operably coupled to an engine. A hydraulic motor for driving an air conditioning compressor and a power steering hydraulic mechanism having less fluid demand than that of the hydraulic motor are disposed in a first and a second fluid lines respectively. First, second and third nozzles are disposed within the fluid lines. The volume of fluid controlled by the first nozzle is larger than that of the second nozzle, which is larger than that of the third nozzle. The first fluid line is depressurized by the first nozzle when the hydraulic motor is used, while the second fluid line is depressurized by the second nozzle when the power steering mechanism is used. When neither the hydraulic motor nor the power steering mechanism is used, the pressure in the fluid line on the circulation side is reduced to nearly zero by the third nozzle.
