  • Patent number: 10648263
Abstract: A technique includes running a plug assembly inside a tubing string of a well; deploying an untethered object in the tubing string; and communicating the untethered object into a passageway of the plug assembly to land the untethered object in a seat of the plug assembly. The passageway has a maximum cross-sectional dimension that is larger than a maximum cross-sectional dimension of the untethered object. The technique includes using the landed untethered object to form a fluid barrier in the tubing string.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 19, 2016
Date of Patent: May 12, 2020
    Assignee: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION
Inventors: Daniel C. Markel, Tauna Lea Leonardi
  • Patent number: 10584555
Abstract: A technique facilitates servicing of a subterranean formation by treating a specific section of a well. The technique utilizes a straddle packer conveyed downhole and then activated via coiled tubing. The straddle packer comprises a first, e.g. upper, packer and a second, e.g. lower, packer which are deployed downhole into the wellbore to the specific section of the wellbore proximate a target formation zone. Once properly located, the straddle packer is uniquely activated by compression and tension inputs applied via the coiled tubing.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 10, 2016
Date of Patent: March 10, 2020
    Assignee: Schlumberger Technology Corporation
Inventors: Tauna Lea Leonardi, Idalia Ovalle Stevenson
  • Publication number: 20180171743
Abstract: A technique includes deploying a plug assembly including a degradable material inside a tubing string of a well; engaging the plug assembly with the tubing string to anchor the plug assembly to the tubing string; and preventing a cathodic reaction from degrading the degradable material. Preventing the cathodic reaction includes electrically isolating the engaged plug assembly from the tubing string. During the prevention of the cathodic reaction, a fluid barrier is formed in the tubing string using the plug assembly.
