  • Patent number: 8703655
Abstract: A homopolymer of a monomer selected from those having the general formula: wherein: R1 is H or CH3; R2 is H or an alkyl group having from 1 to about 4 carbon atoms; A is a straight or branched chain alkyl group having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms; and R3, R4, and R5 each are independently an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; or a copolymer of such monomers as acrylate, acrylamide or methacrylamide may be used to disperse metal sulfides prior to their forming scales during the production and transportation of crude oil. Terpolymers of dimethyldiallylammonium salt, 2-hydroxypropyl acrylate; and acrylic acid may also be used for this purpose. The production fluid may also be treated with a compound that promotes the formation of dispersible sulfide scales.

  • Patent number: 7438877
Abstract: Selective, irreversible removal of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and other sulfhydryl compounds from a gas stream, such as sour natural gas and sour hydrocarbon liquids is achieved with a scavenging agent having hydroxyalkyl functionality and alkylamine functionality. This scavenger possesses a higher capacity for H2S removal compared with a scavenger having only hydroxyalkyl functionality. The scavenging agent is made by reacting at least one alkanolamine and at least one alkyl amine with an aldehyde, such as formaldehyde.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 1, 2006
Date of Patent: October 21, 2008
    Assignee: Baker Hughes Incorporated
Inventors: Tauseef Salma, Alexander A. Lambert, III, Gordon T. Rivers
