    Abstract: An operating device includes a plurality of steering wheel switches provided on a steering wheel, a display part in which function icons representing functions of the steering wheel switches are arranged in the substantially same layout as the steering wheel switches, and a contact detection device for detecting contact or access by the driver's thumb with respect to the steering wheel switches. If the contact detection device detects the contact or access by the driver's thumb with respect to one of the steering wheel switches, the function icon associated with the one steering wheel switch is highlighted.
