  • Patent number: 8089879
Abstract: In the method, a source device places identifiers in data packets to be transmitted. The identifiers may include in-band flow control acknowledgment data in response to a flow control request transmitted from a destination device. When the destination device receives the transmitted data packets, the destination device will proceed based on the data contained in the data packets that are to be decoded at the destination device. If the decoded data packet contains in-band flow control acknowledgment data in response to a flow control request from the destination device, the destination device processes the data packets based on the received in-band flow control acknowledgment data.

  • Patent number: 7532600
Abstract: A method and system for using one H-ARQ process in communication systems having a Multiple Input Multiple Output antenna system. Information to be transmitted is first coded using a particular coding scheme and having a particular base coding rate. The coded information is then divided into groups of sub-blocks of coded information. Each group of sub-blocks of coded information contains one or more sub-blocks where the number of sub-blocks in a group is determined from current channel conditions of an antenna through which the group is to be transmitted. The groups are then rate matched and modulated based on the current channel conditions and transmitted through one or more antennas.

  • Patent number: 7453845
Abstract: A method for dynamically varying the allocation and distribution of a base station's resources in response to fluctuations in demand for services. The method includes transmitting a status signal from a base station to a base station controller over an Iub interface. The status signal may correspond to the demand of the base station's transmit power for a data transmission service, such as HSDPA, and for at least another service, such as a dedicated voice channel. In response to receiving the usage information signal, the base station controller may vary the transmit power of the base station allocated for HSDPA and/or for the dedicated voice, data and/or both integrated voice and data channel. In response to receiving users' status information for HSDPA services, the base station controller may vary its call admission status for HSDPA and/or dedicated voice, data and/or both integrated voice and data users.

  • Patent number: 7403528
Abstract: A method of data communication. The method includes transmitting a control message identifying missing data as lost by the transmitter prior to the expiration of a timer. The missing data may include at least one data packet such that the control message identifies the at least one missing data packet. The control message may include a field and/or an acknowledge sequence number for identifying the missing data packet. The control message also may include a packet data unit having a dummy payload and/or a zero payload. The control message communicates to the receiver that the transmitter has aborted the transmission and/or retransmission of the one or more missing data packets. The control message may be communicated to the receiver over the same data channel used for transmitting the data packets, or alternatively, a wholly different channel than the data channel.

  • Patent number: 7227851
Abstract: A transport channel multiplexing system provides improved use of wireless resources in a shared data channel system. For example, the transport channel system reduces the amount of transport format information required for using a shared data channel, such as the actual number of packet data units in a transport channel of the shared data channel. Additionally, by scheduling or multiplexing coded sub-blocks from one or more transport channels over the shared data channel, the transport channel multiplexing system can provide improved integration with other important features, such as incremental redundancy, fast adaptation to channel conditions and transport channel dependent quality of service (QOS) control, to provide improved system performance.

  • Patent number: 7075891
Abstract: In the method and apparatus for transmitting data packets, a source device places identifiers in data packets being transmitted. The identifiers identify data packets that the source device considers properly received by a destination device or identify data packets that have had their transmission aborted by the source device. When the destination device receives data packets including these identifiers and the identifiers identify data packets that the destination device has yet to receive, the destination device will proceed as if the identified data packets have been re-sequenced.

  • Patent number: 7009949
Abstract: A rate feedback and adaptation scheme or system uses a rate of rate feedback asymmetrical with the rate of data rate adaptation. In particular, the rate adaptation system provides a rate of rate feedback slower than the rate of rate adaptation. Thus, by allowing the base station to change the data rate more frequently than the individual wireless units reports the rate information, the rate adaptation system can provide improved flexibility and more efficient use of wireless resources while reducing the processing and transmission overhead required to report the rate information. For example, every 3 slots, a wireless unit can calculate and report a rate for the wireless unit to use on a shared channel to send data. The base station receives the rates from the wireless units seeking to send data over the shared channel and selects a wireless unit to use the shared channel.

  • Patent number: 7006464
Abstract: An uplink and downlink channel structure supports a shared downlink data channel. The new structure accommodates advanced physical and Medium Access Control (MAC) layer techniques, such as incremental redundancy (IR), fast adaptation to channel conditions, and multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna configuration. The proposed changes are intended to lead to a downlink structure that achieves higher spectral efficiency for the packet oriented services over then shared downlink channel. Additionally, the new structure uses the base station transmit power information and of the channelization (OVSF) code space more efficiently.

  • Patent number: 6987729
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for dynamically controlling a high speed wireless communication system to optimize utilization of system resources and increase system throughput. The invention operates to determine an allocation of wireless transmission resources to each user application served by the wireless system in a manner to optimize transmission resources while meeting required QoS criteria for the served user application. After all user applications have been provided a transmission resource allocation in this manner, the total transmission resources so allocated are determined and compared with a ceiling transmission resource level for the wireless system. A portion of the difference between the ceiling and currently allocated transmission resource levels is then made available, according to the invention, to the served user applications in proportion to the initial allocation provided each user application.

  • Publication number: 20040228313
Abstract: A method of mapping data for uplink transmission in a communication system maps data to a transport channel for uplink transmission in accordance with a selected transmission mode for uplink transmission. In the method, a transmission parameter may be extracted from a received signaling message, and a transmission mode for uplink transmission selected based on the extracted transmission parameter. The data, which may be high data rate uplink data, may me mapped from logical channels in a MAC layer to transport channels in a physical layer for transmission on the uplink. The transmission on the uplink may be performed from one of an autonomous transmission mode and a scheduled transmission mode, and the transmission parameter may be at least one of a priority indication parameter related to class priority of a service class of data to be transmitted on the uplink, and a radio channel condition.
