  • Patent number: 5413568
Abstract: An individual absorbent article package, such as a sanitary napkin wrapper and an adhesive fastening system for such a wrapper are disclosed. The adhesive fastening system comprises a tape tab having an adhesive for releasably securing the wrapper and sanitary napkin in a folded configuration prior to and after use. The adhesive is adhered to a landing surface such as a portion of the sanitary napkin wrapper that forms part of the package body. The landing surface need not be reinforced to prevent tearing upon opening of the package. The fastening system provides bond security while at the same time making the fastening system easy to open without tearing by carefully matching of the properties of the adhesive, the tape tab, and the landing surface. The surface characteristics, elasticity modulus, and caliper of the landing surface are specified.

  • Patent number: 5399177
Abstract: Disposable absorbent articles such as baby diapers or adult incontinent briefs provided with a refastenable adhesive fastening system. The adhesive fastening system preferably comprises a pair of tape tabs each having an adhesive surface which during use is adhered to a landing member having an adherence surface which may comprise only the backsheet that has no reinforcement for strength against tearing or may comprise a reinforced backsheet. The invention improves bond security while at the same time making the fastening system more easy to remove without tearing by careful optimization of the properties of the adhesive, the tape tab, and the landing member. In particular, it has been found that the adhesive fastening system should have a Standard Shear Hang Time of greater than about 1000 minutes per square inch.

  • Patent number: 5058247
Abstract: An improved releasably securable fastening system for attaching to a complementary receiving surface is disclosed. The fastening system features an engaging means in the form of a hook-shaped tine. The engaging means is longitudinally spaced away from, or above, a substrate by an upstanding shank. The engaging means forms an included angle, relative to the perpendicular from the plane of the substrate, which is greater than 180.degree. so that the engaging means has a reentrant segment. The reentrant segment of the engaging means provides for more effective securing of the fastening system to a receiving surface. An engaging means having an included angle greater than 180.degree. provides improved resistance to forces which cause separation of the engaging means from the receiving surface.

  • Patent number: 5019066
Abstract: A unitary disposable absorbent article such as a diaper is provided with an absorbent core; a liquid impervious backsheet; a liquid pervious topsheet; and a waistpanel positioned over and joined to said topsheet adjacent at least one of the end edges of the absorbent article. The waistpanel provides a waist feature that reduces the potential of liquids to wick between the skin of the wearer and the topsheet, reduces the potential for rollover of the waist portion of the absorbent article, and provides a soft, skin friendly, breathable waist feature.

  • Patent number: 4909803
Abstract: A disposable absorbent article for absorbing liquids, particularly body fluids such as urine. An absorbent core is encased in an outer covering layer to which flaps are connected along the longitudinal sides at a proximal edge. The flaps also have a distal edge which is displaced from the absorbent core means. The flaps are elasticized to render the distal edge elastically contractible so that the flap is gathered.

  • Patent number: 4808178
Abstract: An article of manufacture is disclosed for absorbing liquids, particularly body fluids such as urine. An absorbent core is encased in an outer covering layer to which flaps are connected along the longitudinal sides. The flaps are elasticized and have a leakage resistant portion which is non-wicking, non-absorbent and liquid impermeable.

  • Patent number: 4795452
Abstract: A disposable absorbent article such as a diaper having an outer covering layer comprising a liquid pervious topsheet and a liquid impervious backsheet, an absorbent core encased in the outer covering layer, and at least one cuff member extending outwardly from and along an edge of the absorbent core. The cuff member comprises an upper layer, a base layer, a cantilever flap interposed between the upper layer and the base layer and having a fixed edge and a distal edge, and gathering means such as a plurality of elastic members secured to the cantilever flap. The cuff member enhances containment and fit of the absorbent article and minimizes cuff roll-out and collapse during use.

  • Patent number: 4681579
Abstract: A disposable absorbent article such as a diaper with a liquid pervious topsheet, a liquid impervious backsheet, an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet, flexible side flaps extending outwardly from and along each side edge of the absorbent core in at least the crotch region of the diaper, elastic members secured to the side flaps, and a reservoir. The reservoir collects and holds body exudates, especially loose fecal material, until the diaper is removed. Leakage prevention is enhanced because body exudates would have to flow not only above and over the reservoir but also beyond the elasticized side flaps; leakage being additionally prevented by the elasticized side flaps because they form an additional liquid impervious barrier about the body of the wearer.

  • Patent number: RE34920
Abstract: A disposable absorbent article for absorbing liquids, particularly body fluids such as urine. An absorbent core is encased in an outer covering layer to which flaps are connected long the longitudinal sides at a proximal edge.
