Patent number: 10047708Abstract: A fuel water separator filter is described that is configured as a filter-in-filter construction with multiple water separating layers to separate water from the fuel. The fuel water separator filter is configured for use on a suction side of a fuel pump, and includes a neck with a radially outward facing seal that in use seals with the filter housing. The filter housing is formed with an isolated water sump that in use is isolated from water that is stripped from the fuel by the first stage of the outer filter. The isolated water sump is formed by a wall within the housing, instead of relying on an outer diameter seal on the filter to form the water sump.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2014Date of Patent: August 14, 2018Assignee: Cummins Filtration IP, Inc.Inventors: Zemin Jiang, Ted Loftis, Mark Johnson

Patent number: 8496816Abstract: A fuel heater module and a water-in-fuel sensor module are disclosed that are configured to be connected to an outside surface of a filter assembly. The fuel heater module includes an inlet port and an outlet port with a heating element positioned in the fluid path between the inlet and outlet. A thermostat is included for controlling operation of the heating element. The water-in-fuel sensor module is configured to detect water in the filter housing that it may be drained from the filter housing. Both modules are configured to be attached to an outside surface of the filter housing thereby being readily replaceable.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2008Date of Patent: July 30, 2013Assignee: Cummins Filtration IP, Inc.Inventors: Abby True-Dahl, Gerard Malgorn, Arnuad LeVen, Gildas LeMen, Mark Wieczorek, Zemin Jiang, Jeffrey A. Publication number: 20110278215Abstract: A filtration device is provided that includes a filter component and an additive component. The filter component includes concentrically arranged filtering elements disposed in a filter-in-filter configuration. The additive component includes at least one additive material that is introduced into a working fluid to be filtered. The filter component and additive component provide an assembly for a filtration system that would filter a variety of working fluids. The filter component and additive component provides an assembly that can filter fluids more efficiently. As a result, fluids may enjoy, for example, extended drainage intervals and thereby reduce component wear.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 29, 2011Publication date: November 17, 2011Applicant: CUMMINS FILTRATION IP INC.Inventors: Harold R. Martin, Abby True Dahl, Ted Loftis, Ismail Bagci, Wassem Abdallah, Mark J. Johnson, Barry M. Verdegan, Peter K. Herman

Publication number: 20070039865Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for multistage water separation. A first separation layer separates water droplets from a fuel flow by repelling the first water droplets. A coalescing layer may coalesce fine water droplets in the fuel flow. In one embodiment, a centrifugal separator directs the fuel flow tangentially to a filter wall and the centrifugal force of the fuel flow directed tangentially along the filter wall biases water droplets from the fuel flow. A second separation layer separates second water droplets from the fuel flow.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2005Publication date: February 22, 2007Inventors: Zemin Jiang, Ted Loftis, Mark Johnson, Barry Verdegan
