  • Publication number: 20050106929
Abstract: Modular plug for terminating a cable having twisted signal pairs of wires including a plug housing having contact blade-receiving slots at a front end and defining a longitudinally extending cavity opening at a rear end and a strain relief member defining a channel for receiving the cable. A wire aligner is interposed between the strain relief member and the housing and arranged at least partially in the cavity. The wire aligner aligns the wires of the cable into specific position relative to the slots and crimps the cable when received in the channel of the strain relief member. To crimp the cable, the wire aligner is formed with retention fingers which exert an inwardly directed force against the cable when receive din the channel of the strain relief member.

  • Publication number: 20050106918
Abstract: Modular connector including a housing defining a cable-receiving cavity and having a lower wall, a tab at a front portion extending rearwardly and obliquely outward from the lower wall and an anti-snag member extending from the lower wall to engage with the tab to close a gap between the tab and the lower wall and prevent snagging of wires by the tab. The anti-snag member includes an arcuate portion defining a forward facing end at an interface between the arcuate portion and the lower wall. The connector also includes an arrangement for electrically coupling a cable when received in the cavity to electrical contacts in a mating connector. In the manufacturing process, the anti-snag member is formed as a part of the mold of the housing but in a planar form extending rearwardly from the lower wall and is then bent by heating into the arcuate form.

  • Patent number: 6179667
Abstract: A high frequency electrical connector assembly including a housing defining a plug-receiving receptacle having an entrance opening and contact/terminal members arranged in the housing. The contact/terminal members include at least one forward facing contact/terminal member having a forward facing contact situated in the receptacle and a non-contact portion including a terminal. The forward facing contact has a rearward end coupled to the terminal and a forward end which is closer to the entrance opening than the rearward end. The housing includes an outer housing part and an insert assembly insertable into the outer housing part to define the plug-receiving receptacle and including a securing insert for firmly securing the forward facing contact/terminal member(s) in the housing. The securing insert itself may be secured in connection with the housing to prevent movement thereof.
