  • Patent number: 7136646
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for performing a location update of a user equipment in a mobile network, wherein it is decided on the basis of the result of a negotiation with an old location register whether to use an identification information obtained from the old location register or to retrieve the identification information from a user database. Accordingly, whenever a fall-back to a protocol version not supporting the required identification information is determined, the identification information is retrieved from the user database, to thereby guarantee that the correct identification information is used in the new location register. The identification information may comprise security or authentication parameters.

  • Patent number: 7065340
Abstract: A method of arranging data protection in a telecommunication system including a first mobile communication network, a second mobile communication network, and a mobile station supporting both of the mobile communication networks is disclosed. The method includes ciphering traffic between the mobile station and the first mobile communication network using a first cipher key; calculating a second cipher key to be used for ciphering traffic between the mobile station and the second mobile communication network in the first mobile communication network when the mobile station operates in the first mobile communication network; transmitting information necessary for calculating the second cipher key from the first mobile communication network to the mobile station when the mobile station operates in the first mobile communication network; and calculating the second cipher key at the mobile station to be used for ciphering traffic between the mobile station and the second mobile communication network.

  • Publication number: 20060034198
Abstract: The present invention proposes a method for informing a lawful interception system of the serving system serving an intercepted target (MS) roaming within a communication network system, the communication network system comprising at least one serving system each serving system comprising at least one serving system node, (SGSN) serving the intercepted target for communication, the method comprising the steps of first detecting a serving system node change request (1.) from the intercepted target (MS) towards a new serving system node which is currently not serving the target, first processing said serving system node change request at said new serving system node currently not serving the target, wherein said processing comprises the inclusion, to the request, of a serving system address of the new serving system node currently not serving the target, and first forwarding said processed request (2.) to an old serving system node currently serving the target.

  • Publication number: 20050086319
Abstract: The invention proposes a method and system for handling transmission of packets and/or signalling in a system including a node, e.g. SGSN, for transmitting data packets and/or signalling to another entity or receiving data packets and/or signalling from the another entity, e.g. GGSN. The node has a distributed architecture which includes at least two processing units each having their own address or identifier and being able to transmit and/or receive packets and/or signalling to or from the another entity. The node is adapted to send, in case one or more of its processing units is at least temporarily no longer usable or to be used for sending or receiving packets and/or signalling, information to the another entity for informing the another entity thereon. The information sent from the node to the another entity may contain an address or identifier of another processing unit to be used for receiving and transmitting packets and/or signalling instead of the processing unit no longer to be used.

  • Patent number: 6804533
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, a communications system and a network element for providing communication services for a mobile station. The mobile station is arranged to use at least two different communication services provides by the communications system. The communications system comprises a first network element and a second network element for controlling the communication services provided for the mobile station. The mobile station may communicate by using at least two different communication services under the control of the first network element. The method comprises initiating relocation of the control of a least one of said communication services from the first network element to the second network element, whereafter a message is sent to the first network element. The message includes information based on which it is possible to selectively relocate said at least one communication service to the second network element.

  • Publication number: 20040037318
Abstract: When an SCCP protocol according to the SS7 signalling system is used in the network layer and some other protocol than a protocol according to the SS7 signalling system is used in the lower layer, an address according to the second system is set as a proper address in the address field of the addressing according to the SCCP protocol, the address is marked as a global title address of the SCCP protocol, and the proper address is transmitted from the first layer to the second layer. In this way the lower layer receives an address it can use for routing and there is no need to change the addressing of the SCCP protocol.
