Abstract: Low-powered wireless communication devices are used for control and monitoring in a wide range of applications, including, but not limited to, home automation, agriculture, energy management, infrastructure monitoring, and defense systems. RPL (Routing Protocol for Low Power Lossy Networks) is used for networking between routers and their interconnections in wireless communication environments that are characterized by high loss rates, low data rates, and instability. The present invention improves the performance of RPL by adding a weighted average Link Quality Indicator to a Rank determination methodology for selecting parent nodes in establishing and maintaining an RPL network.
