  • Publication number: 20120171034
Abstract: The invention allows orientation of the platform (1) in order to obtain conditions of maximum efficiency in the wind turbine (16). It comprises first sensors (8) for detecting an effective rotation axis angle (?) formed between the rotation axis (2) and a horizontal plane (24); second sensors (9) for detecting wind direction (23); platform orientation means (11) for modifying the effective rotation axis angle (?); and at least one control unit (12) adapted for receiving a first input (13) from the first sensors (8) and a second input (14) from the second sensors (9) and, based on said inputs (13, 14), transmitting orders to the platform orientation means (11) and yaw mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20120038169
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a generator having a rotor which comprises rotor excitation element-carrying modules, for example magnets, radially movable in relation to the generator shaft in such a manner, when in their retracted position, as to significantly ease generator transport and assembly. The use of these movable magnet-carrying modules is particularly useful in direct drive-type generators which do not require a multiplier. Another object of the invention is an assembly process which comprises a generator equipped with said radially movable magnet-carrying modules.

  • Publication number: 20110156389
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for controlling a wind turbine of the type including a rotor, a generator, a frequency converter, a control unit and means for connecting to a wind farm grid, using means for receiving a local voltage reference value (VREF) and a regulator (1) which calculates the reactive power to be generated (QT) as a function of the voltage error (?V), such that it can be operated over the entire voltage range. The system also includes: at least one saturator element (2, 6, 7) in which the reactive power to be generated is limited, whereby the limits (Q—MAX, Q—MIN, QC—MAX, QC—MIN, QS—MAX, QS—MIN) are calculated dynamically as a function of the voltage, this block outputting a reference reactive power of the wind turbine (Q—REF, QC—REF, Qs—REF); and an element (3) for calculating the actual limit of the active power (PMAX) as a function of the pre-limited reactive power (Q—REF, Qs—REF) and the apparent power available at that moment.

  • Publication number: 20100298991
Abstract: System and method for controlling a wind farm, for wind farms comprising a plurality of wind turbines having a rotor, a generator, a control unit and means for connecting to the mains of the wind farm, said wind turbines having means for generating reactive power according to the instructions of the wind farm control system, said control system calculating a global reactive power demand to be produced by the whole wind farm on the basis of the voltage at the connection point or the power factor required, and said control system sending reactive power instructions to the wind turbines of the farm, the central control system for the wind turbines receiving information based on one or more parameters indicating the level of heating of the electrical components of the wind turbines, the generation of reactive power being distributed between the various wind turbines.

  • Publication number: 20100256829
Abstract: Control system and method for a wind turbine generator, such wind turbine being a variable speed turbine and having a doubly fed induction generator, said control system comprising means for determining the operating temperature of the different subsystems, having the means for dividing the generation of reactive power, both inductive and capacitive, between the stator (3) and the network side converter (6), based on the criterion of keeping every subsystem operating temperature as far away as possible from its corresponding limit, the method comprising the following steps: determine the electrical elements temperature; calculate the closeness of those temperatures to each element corresponding limit temperature; and distribute the reactive power production between the stator (3) and the network side converter (6), based on the criterion of keeping every subsystem operating temperature as far as possible from its corresponding limit.

  • Publication number: 20100237834
Abstract: A method for controlling a power generation plant may be provided. First, an equivalent grid voltage may be estimated based on electric magnitudes measured at a connection point of the power generation plant and an equivalent model of a power grid to which the power generation plant is connected. Then, on the basis of said estimated equivalent voltage, a command indicative of reactive power to be produced by the power generation plant may be generated.

  • Publication number: 20100219634
Abstract: A wind turbine control method for dampening vibrations of a transmission system, even in the presence of voltage dips and in any event that is susceptible to reducing active current generation capacity, is provided. First, for example, an initial torque or power instruction may be calculated based on a turbine operating state. Next, a torque or power adjustment term associated with dampening vibration modes of a turbine transmission system may be calculated. Then, a final torque or power instruction may be calculated by, for example, applying the adjustment term to the initial instruction. Finally, the final torque or power instruction may be transformed into a current instruction for controlling the wind turbine.
