  • Patent number: 7292861
Abstract: The idea of the present invention is to enable the transmission of control information via several logical channels and to select the transmission channel dynamically by using a predefined selection rule. There are at least two logical channels that can be selected for the transmission of information. These logical channels should preferably include at least one signalling channel which is allocated in a connection-specific manner. The signalling channels which are allocated in a connection-specific manner can be signalling channels which use the capacity of the traffic channel or independent signalling channels which are allocated separately from traffic channels. At least one of the logical channels available for selection should preferably also be a shared channel allocated to several connections for joint signalling.

    Assignee: Nokia Corporation

  • Publication number: 20050141471
Abstract: A radio access network (RNC) assigns for a real-time media session a real-time access bearer that can be shifted between a dedicated channel state and a common channel state. The assignment is made in response to receiving an access bearer assignment message indicating that the real-time media session requires a real-time access bearer of that type. The media activity of the real-time access bearer is then monitored, and the access bearer shifts to the common channel state upon detecting media inactivity during the dedicated channel state, and shifts to the dedicated channel state upon detecting media activity during the common channel state.

  • Patent number: 6693892
Abstract: According to the method of the invention, connections are divided into at least two different connection classes according to their requirements for transmission delay. The control system of the base station subsystem maintains a record of the transmission needs of the users logged in different categories and based thereon divides the available radio resources into slots of suitable capacity. For connections with stringent requirements for transmission delay, circuit-switched connections are allocated with a bandwidth which can be controlled dynamically. Then from the resource pool still unassigned after the resource allocation to the circuit-switched connections, a sufficient amount of resources are allocated on a time-limited basis allocation for each allocation period to connections having a higher tolerance for delay so as to accomplish transmission, e.g. of a given amount of data.

  • Publication number: 20020018472
Abstract: A signaling method for a link protocol used for transmitting a data unit in a telecommunication system and a network element using the signaling method are described, wherein a predetermined number of a sequence number field provided in a protocol data unit is used for signaling a control function of the link protocol, such as a protocol reset function. Thereby, a separate control PDU-type is no longer required for signaling the respective control function, such that transmission overhead can be reduced.
