Abstract: A method used by an computerized export control system (105) for online information such as documents allows log-on (210) by a user only when the user has a verified citizenship that is recorded and available to the computerized export control system. The computerized export control system records (330) a user entered export control classification number (ECCN) for the new document, when the ECCN matches an ECCN on a recorded list of valid ECCN's. A document is recorded as being commerce restricted when at least one of the following statements is true (705, 710): no export classification control number (ECCN) is recorded for the document, and at least one recorded ECCN is export controlled. The system automatically notifies an Export Control Specialist (365) when a document is submitted that has an export workflow restriction.
