  • Patent number: 11916368
Abstract: The invention relates to remote activation of a communication module of a self-powered intelligent electronic device (IED). The IED controls an auto recloser mounted on an electric pole of a power distribution network. A controller of the IED, receives an activation signal from a trigger source, positioned within a predefined distance from the IED, through an optical sensor to activate the communication module. A control signal is generated, upon the controller of the IED detecting the activation signal, for powering the communication module from a power supply module. The power supply module is enabled to power the communication module for a duration controlled with the control signal. The communication module is activated for communicating a plurality of data associated with the IED to a remote communication device upon enabling the power supply module for the communication module.

  • Publication number: 20090116405
Abstract: The object of the invention is an automation data communications network (3-1, 4-1) comprising a control and data acquisition device (3-2, 4-2), said device supporting a protocol for controlling communications within said network (3-1, 4-1), and one or more IEDs (4-8 . . . 4-16), said device supporting a protocol for controlling communications within said network (3-1, 4-1) and including a switch (4-8a) with at least two ports arranged in a functional connection with the device. The invention is characterized in that an element (4-6) with at least two ports is arranged in a functional connection with the control and data acquisition device (3-2, 4-2) and that a first loop is arranged between the IEDs (4-8 . . . 4-16) and a second loop is arranged between the IEDs (4-8 . . . 4-16) and the control and data acquisition device (3-2, 4-2).

  • Patent number: 6646859
Abstract: A power supply arrangement, especially in connection with a conductor (5) of a medium-voltage overhead line, which arrangement comprises a power supply (2) and a first and second element (3, 4) made of an electrically conductive material, which are connected electrically to the power supply for feeding energy to the power supply. The first element (3) of the power supply arrangement is arranged to be close to the conductor (5) and has a capacitance (Ce) to an element in a second potential, the capacitance being arranged to charge itself by effect of an electric field generated by the voltage of the medium-voltage conductor, and said second element (4) is arranged to have a galvanic or capacitive connection with the conductor (5) for feeding energy to the power supply (2) from the potential difference between said first and second elements.
