  • Patent number: 4903396
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing a transformer having an amorphous metal core. The face of the joint portion of the amorphous metal core is covered with an oil compatible porous pads. Pressure plates are disposed over the pads. A frame positioned generally around the plates secures the pads and plates to the amorphous metal core. Banding straps may be threaded about the core assembly to further secure the core assembly.

  • Patent number: 4893400
Abstract: A method of making a repairable transformer having an amorphous metal core 1 wherein three uncut legs of an annealed wound amorphous metal core are covered with an adhesive impregnated material 10 while leaving the cut leg, 6 and 7, and both adjoining radii uncovered. The adhesive is cured, causing the adhesive to bond to the core. The core joint is opened and coils 11 and 12 are placed over the legs that adjoin the cut leg. The core joint is closed and the edges of the joint and both adjoining radii are covered with a porous material. No adhesive bonds to the edges of the cut leg or to the edges of adjoining radii. The resulting transformer can be repaired by cutting away the porous material that covers the cut leg and the adjoining radii, opening the core joint, replacing a defective coil, reclosing the core joint, and resealing the cut leg as before.

  • Patent number: 4892773
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of preparing an amorphous metal core 1 for use in a transformer. The uncut legs 7, 8 and 9 of the core 1 are covered with an adhesive impregnated substrate 10, the edges 11 of which are bent over to make contact with the core 1. A release sheet 12 and a plate 13 are placed over the adhesive impregnated substrate, the plate 13 is pressed against the core 1, and the adhesive is cured. The process is repeated with the edges on the opposite side of the core.

  • Patent number: 4537803
Abstract: A fluid, insulating composition, useful for casting around conductors, is made from a liquid, polymerizable organic resin system, and a liquid, non-polymerizable organopolysiloxane dielectric filler partially soluble in the organic resin system and having the structural formula:(R).sub.3 --Si[OSi(R).sub.2)].sub.n OSi(R).sub.3,where n=0 to about 10, and each R group is selected from H, alkyl having from 1 to 6 carbons, and phenyl, where the dielectric is added in an amount such that, upon polymerization of the organic resin system to form a resin matrix containing dielectric filler, the dielectric will flow or diffuse through the resin matrix into cavities or voids in or bordering the composition or near any insulated conductors or other insulated articles.

  • Patent number: 4104238
Abstract: A cured, insulating, casting composition, having a coefficient of linear thermal expansion of below about 38 .times. 10.sup.-6 in./in./.degree. C and being resistant to arced sulfur hexafluoride gas, in contact with a metal surface in a sulfur hexafluoride gas environment, is made from hydantoin epoxy resin, anhydride curing agent and a filler combination of fused silica and alumina trihydrate.
