  • Patent number: 11181460
Abstract: A test cell may include a base frame including a test slot; a pressure-generating insert positioned on a pedestal within the test slot; an impermeable protective layer in contact with the base frame; a sorbent layer positioned between the pressure-generating insert and the impermeable protective layer; a complex protective material swatch in contact with the sorbent layer, the complex protective material swatch having a contaminant applied thereon; a locking frame in contact with the impermeable protective layer, wherein the locking frame secures the impermeable protective layer to the base frame; a sealing gasket in contact with at least the locking frame and the complex protective material swatch; a gasket compression frame in contact with the sealing gasket; a cover in contact with the stability plate; and weights in contact with the cover. The test cell may be included in methods for measuring permeation of contaminants through complex protective material swatches.

  • Patent number: 9594010
Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring the permeation of chemicals through protective materials is described. The testing apparatus and method includes a PTFE layer; placing a sorbent pad on the PTFE layer; applying contaminants to a protective material; placing the protective material adjacent to the sorbent pad with the side having contaminants opposite the sorbent pad; applying a weight to the protective material causing the protective material to contact the sorbent pad, and determining any permeation of contaminants through said protective material causing exposure on the sorbent pad to the contaminants; and measuring a level of contamination of the sorbent pad upon exposure to any contaminants which permeated the protective material. A second PTFE layer may be placed in between the weight and the protective material. An o-ring gasket may also be used to further confine the contaminant on the protective material being tested.

  • Patent number: 9086351
Abstract: A system and method for testing contact permeation of a glove using a mannequin hand having fingers and a thumb. A hand cradle supports the mannequin hand with the palm of the hand facing away from the hand cradle. A patterned weight block applies pressure to the palm, fingers, and thumb of the hand. A weight block is placed on the patterned weight block and the whole assembly is placed in an air tight containment box. The mannequin hand is covered with a protection layer, a sorptive glove layer, and a test glove. The test glove is contaminated with the chemical of interest. Pressure is applied to the palm, fingers, and thumb of the test glove, and the contaminant that permeates through the test glove into the sorptive glove layer is collected and measured.

A second PTFE layer may be placed in between the weight and the protective material. Additionally, another PTFE layer may be placed in between the protective material and the sorbent pad. The protective material may include any of air impermeable materials, air permeable materials, and semi-permeable materials.

  • Patent number: 8337776
Abstract: A system and method to safely dispose of hazardous liquid waste includes a glove box for conducting a test with a hazardous liquid material therein, the glove box having a drainage line connected to a waste tank for directing the hazardous liquid waste from the glove box to the waste tank. A waste disposal line and an air vent line are connected between the waste tank and a waste container. Double-valved connectors are positioned in the waste disposal line and in the air vent line allowing the liquid waste and air to flow between the waste tank and a waste container when the double-valved connectors are coupled together. When the double-valved connectors are uncoupled, both the waste tank and the waste container are completely sealed to the surrounding environment.
