Abstract: A solid golf ball comprising a solid core and a cover enclosing the core. The core includes a center core layer and an outer core layer enclosing the center core layer, the center core layer having a specific gravity that differs from the specific gravity of the outer core layer by more than 0.1. The cover includes an inner cover layer formed over the core and an outer cover layer enclosing the inner cover layer, the outer cover layer having a Shore D hardness less than that of the inner core layer and no more than 55.

Abstract: A dimpled configuration for a golf ball wherein, in the first embodiment, the dimples are arranged in a geometrical lattice configuration so as to form a perfect icosahedral pattern which inlcudes twenty indentical triangles with a predetermined number of dimples lying along the lines forming the lattice. These dimples are a first diameter, while the dimples within the lattices are of a second diameter greater than the first diameter. In the second embodiment, the five adjacent triangles having common polar vertices are retained on either side of the equatorial line of the ball. Five smaller triangles on either side of the equator include vertices common with each adjacent set of the five triangles, with the legs opposite such vertices being substantially parallel with but terminating short of the equatorial line of the ball. The legs parallel with the equator extend about the ball so as to form five trapezoids which have common sides with the alternate with the five small triangles.

Abstract: Disclosed is a two-piece golf ball and methods for its production. The ball comprises a core having a central portion of a cross-linked, hard, resilient material and having a soft, deformable outer layer. Balls comprising the novel cores and a conventional cover material having playability properties approaching or exceeding thread-wound balata covered balls. The core is preferably manufactured by surface treating a slug of a suitable, curable elastomer composition with a cure altering agent, and molding the slug under conditions to produce a spherical core having a hardness gradient in its surface layers.
