  • Patent number: 7665234
Abstract: A grader blade includes a grader blade body that has a recess in a bottom edge, and a tri-grade insert assembly is received within the recess. The tri-grade insert assembly includes a leading insert, a mediate insert and a trailing insert. The leading insert has an impact wear resistance and fracture wear resistance greater than the mediate insert and the trailing insert. The trailing insert has an abrasion wear resistance and down-pressure wear resistance greater than the leading insert and the mediate insert. The mediate insert has an impact wear resistance and fracture wear resistance greater than the trailing insert and an abrasion wear resistance and down-pressure wear resistance greater than the leading insert.

  • Patent number: 6854527
Abstract: The present invention provides for carbide edge snowplow and grader blades that are durable and fracture resistant. The carbide along the blade edge and blade bottom which contacts the surface being treated is designed to limit the degree of fracture of the carbide. Carbide inserts along the edge and/or bottom are separated from each other by a steel alloy spacer/shim along the width of the blade. The spacer/shim reduces the potential for impact damage cracks that form in a carbide insert from propagating into adjacent inserts along the width of the blade. In one embodiment, the improved blade edge comprises an edge body having a lower edge with a recess and separate slot in the bottom surface of the edge. Within the blade recess and blade slot are positioned carbide block/bar inserts separated by spacer means made from a ductile material.

  • Patent number: 5813474
Abstract: The plow blade comprising support member, a blade edge being mounted to the support member and having one or more insert holes, and one or more blade inserts having a wear portion, the one or more blade inserts being mounted within the one or more insert holes of the blade edge such that the wear portion protrudes to some extent from the one or more insert holes.

  • Patent number: 4903609
Abstract: A tamping pad includes cutout along the length of the leading edge thereof to support at least one wear-resistant insert rigidly positioned therein. The wear-resistant insert comprises a body having a first side and a second opposed side, first and second opposed major surfaces and first and second opposed shoulders. The first side of the insert body defines a tamping blade leading edge which is arcuate in shape between the opposed shoulders. The arcuate leading edge of the insert body has a radius which defines the length of the arcuate edge to be of a ratio of about 1.3 relative to the width of the carbide insert. Preferably, the plurality of inserts extends end to end along the length of the leading edge of the blade to define the interrupted leading edge of the tamping pad as formed by the curvilinear leading edge of each of the plurality of inserts.
