  • Patent number: 8755080
Abstract: A method of adjusting a level of liquid to be deposited on a print media includes providing an image processing system. Image data for a page of a print job and information regarding a printing system to be used to deposit the liquid on the print media during a printing operation is provided to the image processing system. The image data for the page of the print job is converted into a bitmap appropriate for analysis of risk of excessive inking related print defects using the image processing system. The overall risk score is determined to be acceptable or unacceptable. The bitmap is released for printing when the overall risk score is acceptable. The image data for the print job page is modified when the overall risk score is unacceptable.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: June 17, 2014
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company
Inventors: Terry A. Wozniak, Thomas A. Henderson
  • Patent number: 8616673
Abstract: A method of controlling print density in a printing system includes gathering first data from a first sensor; gathering second data from a second sensor; comparing the first data to the second data; if the first data correlates to the second data no action is required; if the first data deviates from the second data; determine a confidence level for each sensor; identify the sensor with the lowest confidence level; and take corrective action.

Date of Patent: December 31, 2013
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company

  • Patent number: 8376496
Abstract: A printing system using multiple printheads maintains color consistency between the printheads by printing a first color patch (102) with a first color with a plurality of printheads (30) at a first pressure and with a first pixel fill coverage. A second color patch (104) is printed with the first color with the plurality of printheads at a second pressure with the first pixel fill coverage. The print density of the first patch and the second patch is measured for each of the plurality of printheads and the print density for each of the plurality of printheads is compared. A pressure for each of the plurality of printheads is adjusted to compensate for differences in density between the first patch and the second patch for each of the printheads.

  • Patent number: 7319547
Abstract: A method of determining substrate and ink compatibility includes providing a test pattern having a range of ink loading levels and including test features corresponding to at least one of text and graphics; identifying a substrate; identifying an ink set; printing the test pattern on the identified substrate using the identified ink set; selecting an ink loading level for at least one of the at least one of text and graphics using the test pattern; and generating a tone scale transformation for one or more ink colors of the identified ink set using the selected ink loading level for at least one of the at least one of text and graphics, the selected ink loading level for the at least one of the at least one of text and graphics being dependent on the identified substrate.
