Publication number: 20210023839Abstract: A continuous inkjet printer includes a linear printhead having a cross-track printhead width that is wider than a cross-track image width. The linear printhead is characterized to determine an image quality level as a function of cross-track position. A segment of the linear printhead is designated wherein the image quality level within the designated segment of the linear printhead is acceptable. A translation mechanism is used to translate the linear printhead relative to the receiver medium such that the designated segment of the linear printhead is aligned with a region on the receiver medium where the image content is to be printed, and the image content is printed on the receiver medium using the designated segment of the linear printhead.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 26, 2019Publication date: January 28, 2021Inventors: Terry Anthony Wozniak, Richard Mazur, Daniel B. Denofsky

Publication number: 20210023841Abstract: Image content is printed on a receiver medium using a continuous inkjet printer with a linear printhead. A plurality of segments of the linear printhead are designated at different cross-track positions. The linear printhead is translated relative to a receiver medium such that an initial segment of the linear printhead is aligned with a printing region on the receiver medium and the image content is printed using the initial segment of the linear printhead. When an image quality level of the printed image content is determined to fall below an acceptable level, the linear printhead is translated relative to the receiver medium such that a next segment of the linear printhead is aligned with the printing region and the image content using the next segment of the linear printhead.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 26, 2019Publication date: January 28, 2021Inventors: Terry Anthony Wozniak, Richard Mazur, Daniel B. Patent number: 10318220Abstract: A method for printing a print job including a plurality of document using a printing system includes receiving demographic information for document recipients associated with each of the documents. Printing parameters for each document are automatically determined such that an estimated total cost for printing the print job is not more than a predefined target cost. The printing parameters used for each document are determined responsive to analyzing the demographic information for the associated document recipient and estimated costs for printing the document using different printing parameters. Each document is printed using the respective determined printing parameters.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2017Date of Patent: June 11, 2019Assignee: EASTMAN KODAK COMPANYInventors: Terry Anthony Wozniak, Steven T. DiLullo, Jennifer S. Pennington, Joseph P. Mangan, William Mansfield

Patent number: 10115134Abstract: A method for printing a print job including a plurality of document pages includes receiving a target cost for printing the print job. The printing system is used to print a portion of the print job including one or more document pages using an initial set of printing parameters. An estimated total cost for printing the print job is determined including an actual cost determined for printing the portion of the print job and an estimated cost for printing a remainder of the print job. A data processing system is used to automatically determine adjusted printing parameters to be used for printing a subsequent portion of the print job if the estimated total cost exceeds the target cost. The printing system is then used to print the subsequent portion of the print job using the adjusted printing parameters.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2017Date of Patent: October 30, 2018Assignee: EASTMAN KODAK COMPANYInventors: Terry Anthony Wozniak, Steven T. Patent number: 9463642Abstract: A method for printing an image with authentication features, including: printing a media treatment material onto a print medium in accordance with a pattern of predefined authentication features, and printing one or more visible printing materials onto the print medium in accordance with an image pattern, thereby providing a printed visible image. The media treatment material alters an interaction between the visible printing materials and the print medium so that characteristics of the interaction, such as printing material penetration characteristics, are different in image regions where the media treatment material was printed than in image regions where the media treatment material was not printed. The difference in the characteristics of the interaction between the one or more visible printing materials and the print medium causes the pattern of authentication features to be detectable.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2015Date of Patent: October 11, 2016Assignee: EASTMAN KODAK COMPANYInventors: Michael J. Piatt, Terry Anthony Wozniak, James A. Katerberg, Wayne Lee Cook, Douglas Eugene Bugner, Allan Francis Sowinski

Patent number: 9375949Abstract: A method for printing an image with authentication features, including: printing a media treatment material onto a print medium in accordance with a pattern of predefined authentication features, and printing one or more visible printing materials onto the print medium in accordance with an image pattern, thereby providing a printed visible image. The media treatment material alters lateral spreading characteristics of the visible printing materials within the print medium, so that the lateral spreading characteristics are different in image regions where the media treatment material was printed than in image regions where the media treatment material was not printed. The difference in the lateral spreading characteristics causes the pattern of authentication features to be detectable.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2015Date of Patent: June 28, 2016Assignee: EASTMAN KODAK COMPANYInventors: Michael J. Patent number: 9375950Abstract: A method for printing an image with authentication features, including: printing a media treatment material onto a print medium in accordance with a pattern of predefined authentication features, and printing one or more visible printing materials onto the print medium in accordance with an image pattern, thereby providing a printed visible image. The media treatment material, the one or more visible printing materials and the print medium interact to produce surface deformations of the print medium. Characteristics of the surface deformations are different in image regions where the media treatment material was printed than in image regions where the media treatment material was not printed, so that the difference between the characteristics of the surface deformations causes the pattern of authentication features to be detectable.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2015Date of Patent: June 28, 2016Assignee: EASTMAN KODAK COMPANYInventors: Michael J. Patent number: 9213287Abstract: A method for correcting color registration errors for a print job including one or more documents having a plurality of color planes. A color registration error model is used to predict a color registration error value for a document as a function of ink coverage characteristics for the document, wherein the color registration error model is a parametric model having one or more parameters. An image plane correction value is determined based on the predicted color registration error, and the document is printed using the determined image plane correction value.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2014Date of Patent: December 15, 2015Assignee: EASTMAN KODAK COMPANYInventors: Randy E. Armbruster, James A. Katerberg, Christopher M. Muir, Terry Anthony Wozniak

Patent number: 9162475Abstract: A method for correcting color registration errors for a color printer that prints color image data on a continuous web of media. A color registration error model is used to predict a color registration error value for a particular in-track position as a function of ink coverage characteristics for an image region including the particular in-track position, wherein the color registration error model is a parametric model having one or more parameters. An image plane correction value is determined based on the predicted color registration error, and the color image data for the particular in-track position is printed using the determined image data correction values.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2014Date of Patent: October 20, 2015Assignee: EASTMAN KODAK COMPANYInventors: Terry Anthony Wozniak, Randy E.
